No. It's not a legal combination in Western Canada. that's why it's only allowed the sum total of 9100 kgs (20,000) lbs on the set. If you see a truck running around with a spread, it's either empty, or with the load on the nose. It's tolerated by some scales or M.O.T. officers, but at least in B.C. you will be warned the first time if not over the 20,000 lbs and told to be legal the next time, either get a trailer with a front axle slider or a tridem, which is preferred.
Always best not to chance it, all it takes is one officer who knows the rules and sticks by them, and you're sunk..

alberta allows a spread now (trust me, i go there half often), but as you said im either light, or loaded toward the front due to the 10k per axle limit...same as BC

winmag, 244" is perfect for canada, and your spread should be fine so long as your rear axle is at the same spot as a 48'er

also, according to the abridged CA provintial notes i have, manitoba and Saskatchewan now allow spreads.....i have yet to run there so i cant say for certian

We run in those provinces regularly and I know that MB, AB, and BC for sure will allow you to run a 10-1 but only as stated before no more than 9100kg. Basically they count it as one axle not two.

Recently we had a trailer come from our company terminal in Ontario, and it was a 48 ft 10 ft spread, all I have to say is WOW, IM HOOKED!

That trailer rode absolutely incredible. Each axle takes bumps independently and that makes for such a smooth ride. It was hands down the best trailer I ever pulled. It even turned like a dream and rode better then a caddy. Very easy to get legal weights on too.

If western Canada would stop being so picky about stuff that doesn't matter, and a axle combination that is actually LESS DAMAGING to our roads, I would buy a 10 ft spread in a heartbeat. Yes, a spread is hard on the ground when turning, but yet Canada LOVES tri-axles, 80% of everything I pull, is on a tri-axle, and 50% of the time, it doesn't need to be, it would be legal on a tandem. So tridems are ok but 10 foot spreads are damaging....rriigghhtt.

The only time I pull something legal for a tandem, on a tridem, is when it's empty. I like my tridems, thank you very much. The only thing I like better than my tridems is my Super-Bs.

And yeah, I know, it's an old thread, but saw this and was wondering why anyone wouldn't want to run nice and heavy with a tridem in Canada? hehe

You can run a spread through western canada, with certain limitations.
SK will only allow you though during certain times of year and under 20,000 gross on your spread.
BC and AB will allow you with 20,000 gross on your spread and you buy a permit.
Yukon doesn't care, however you have to buy a trip and fuel permit each direction. ( not cheap )
Since every providence has their own rules plus MOU, your best bet is to contact each providence's permit office frequintly (since the rules change are subject to change at anytime ) and get the imformation first hand.
You can get the phone numbers in the front of a good atlas if it has Canada in it.
You can get a hundred different opinions, but ultimately your the one who's paying the fines !!!

Or, buy a tandem that has a sliding front axle. Run it at 10 foot when anywhere else but western Canada, and it's no issue.

You can run a 10' 1" spread in these providences provided you are within the 41' king pin rule and gross less than 20,000 on the spread. I do it all the time with no hassle. SK will allow you at certain times of year (when the ground is frozen) but I can't go there because I have a 275" wb truck.(a whole different set of rules) So I don't know the exact days your allowed in SK. You all need to do your home work if you want to run Canada. I've spent about 40 hours on the phone with all the providence's permit dept. and still call quit regulary for up to date rule changes. You can get all the phone #'s in any good atlas if it has Canada in it.

I thought "Providence" was a city in Rhode Island and Canada had "Provinces".
