Its quite simple really stay away from alcohol 12 hours before you need to drive a commercial vehicle and don't risk carrying any in your vehicle,.i used to laugh at this cause it was quite ok to haul a whole trailer load of Budweiser but couldn't have a single bottle in my truck.

What's really crazy is we had a guy fired recently for taking the crew car to the local liquor store. Another company driver saw it and reported it. When the guy returned with the car he was told to go empty his truck.

Methanol is the really nasty stuff that will cause blindness and near instant death. Isopropyl is somewhere between ethyl and methanol toxicity wise. Only reason I ask is because rubbing alcohol has at least a dozen uses on a truck, drinking excluded. :)

Your tractor isn't the only place you could drink. I think it's mainly a throw back to when transporting alcohol into many states was a crime. States want their taxes like with cigarettes.

Personally that's the whole reason for a field sobriety test, give it time to leave you mouth if you just had a drink since the goal is to determine blood alcohol content. Plus it backs up the breathalizer.

So outside of the truck driver does not possess any alcohol. Like the catwalk?

    interesting question.
So I'm a local hauler and owner operator. AM I not legally allowed to stop and pick up a bottle of vodka on the way home from work? I have done it in the past. Wont do it again if its illegal. I also carry a pistol in my truck with a ccw. People say that's illegal but I have found no law that says it is illegal

    It is prohibited, except...

Guidance for § 392.5: Alcohol prohibition.

Question 3: Does the prohibition against carrying alcoholic beverages in §392.5 apply to a driver who uses a company vehicle, for personal reasons, while off-duty?

Guidance: No. For example, an owner-operator using his/her own vehicle in an off-duty status, or a driver using a company truck or tractor for transportation to a motel, restaurant, or home, would normally be outside the scope of this section.
