I don’t drink so I don’t concern myself with it too much. It looks like to me though, you could buy some hooch, put it in the trailer, and fill out a BOL listing the store as the pickup and your home or wherever as the destination and be legal.
BigDog Trucker Thanks this. -
So in other words, let’s say you get caught drinking off duty, whether it’s in the cab or bar, even if you are completely sober by the time you drive, that’ll go on your DAC report and you’ll never drive again??

Obviously its not worth the risk in the USA. I never paid much attention to the rules when I hauled down there and did not even know about liquor laws. What the heck,,how can Canadians be expected to walk by a 1/2 gallon of scotch for $17 in Missouri,, same jug up here would be $100
Keep your nose clean nobody bothers you and dress/groom like the guy the DOT officer wants to show up at his door to date his daughter.tommymonza and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Lets be clear about this alcohol question in regard to real world situations. If you are parked for the night and want to enjoy a brew while watching that big game go ahead. The DOT is not camped outside of that truck stop with binoculars watching you. Because there is technical violations of DOT regulations and there are dangerous violations. I have never seen the need to keep beer in your truck while driving because most truck stops keep plenty on hand. If you drink liquor I suggest you keep it well out of sight and take it with you when on home time. With all this said keep these 2 things in mind. Almost every time a trucker gets called into safety it is one of 2 reasons. A rat has seen you buying it and taking it to your truck or somebody in your terminal found it while you were on home time. As far as DAC goes provided you did not fail a breath test being busted with alcohol is not career ending. Just remember though, depending on your company and their rules you could be subject to blowing 24/7 as long as you are on duty and responsible for the truck. Years ago when I chose to drink it was while staying in a hotel while my tractor was being repaired or serviced.

14 hour break or I don't drink ..period .

Scenario: You stop for the night, it's say 5:30pm. You're at a truck stop, or other secure parked location. You know your next load won't commence until 4pm the next day. The truck will stay put. theres a nice casino, or bar up the road. You take a nice hot shower, put on some good duds and uber it the bar. You have some drinks, say maybe 5-7 drinks until 10pm, you hit uber back to your cabin and crash for the night. You wake up the next morning sober, have some coffee, truck sits until 4pm when your load is ready. Have you violated any rules, laws etc?
