I just saw this thread so I'm sorry for a late reply, you are absolutely correct with Aldi and Black Horse Carriers, Black Horse is based in Carol Stream IL. At least that is there contact address, they are in to all kinds of dedicated accounts and Aldi's is a big account for them. They handle Aldi's in Oak Creek Wi. and Batavia IL. Along with a lot of other accounts in the Chicago and Milwaukee area.

Black Horse is the home carrier at the new Aldi DC in Moreno Valley CA too.

2 years is plenty of time, you shouldn't have anything to worry about with a hair or urine test.

Sharp Transit has a kind of peculiar program offered now for their Webberville, MI and Mt Juliet, TN Aldi DCs. On a month at a time followed by a week off. Doing store deliveries and backhauls. Mostly store deliveries. % pay and they claim they'll run you to a $1500 a week pace when your working plus bonuses. No pay during your week off. Makes it around a $65k gig. I live in Fla and they pay the airfare up and back. My buddy lives 210 miles east of Mt Juliet and they said they'd cover his commute expense as well. Not a real physical job. Load almost everything with a skateboard type forklift at the DCs and offload at the stores with an electric pallet jack. For someone that lives in a depressed wage area like I do down here in Florida and would be ok with the month on and a week off, it'd be a decent job.

I'm not quite sure how you'd secure your gear being home a week and flying. So I passed. Would be better for someone like my buddy that lives within a reasonable driving radius so you could just load your gear in and out of your car. I'd expect they'd probably use your truck on your week off. Most of their drivers are home daily slip seat.

The one in the DFW area must suck big time if it's just pallet jack unload and they can't find anyone to do it...ad claims you can make 65/yr home everyday
-
Sharp only does 7 DCs in the east. But my buddy who works for them in Michigan has made 65k and then 71k his two full years there. Home every day. It's even electric power jacks. Most drivers just want to drive.
-
I wouldn't mind it if I didn't live 90 miles away lol home everyday off weekends 65/yr I just figured with a offering like that they'd have drivers flocking in

I had a good friend that worked for Sharp on the Aldi account. He said you did go home most days, for about ten hours. You worked every day until you were about out of hours, then you were off. Before your thirty-four was up, they were calling to tell you when to be back to work. That's not really any different than OTR. I know they're opening stores, and have some turnover. Maybe when a DC is maxed, they might be able to establish more normal schedules, and drivers might stay longer. Maybe if there are DC's that have stopped servicing new stores, those drivers might have some feedback?

I've been with BHC for about 6 months now and so far it's been going well. I work on the PCA(packaging Corp of america) account in South central PA delivering cardboard boxes. The ad I read and responded to said 900-1100 weekly; I'm averaging a hard 1100. Good people to work with. Most days I'm left alone to do my work. 10-12 hour days, early AM start times.
We just switched from Ryder to Penske and got brand shiny new 2017 Freightliners. Most are single screw so that sucks, but the 12 speed auto works world's away better than 10 automatic. Oh, and drum roll please...dash cam AND driver cam. So no more picking of nose and squishing it under seats! Also company paid satellite radio subscription.
My pay scale is cpm sliding but apart from that there is this: I'm paid for every minute of my time. 14 bucks a stop for first 45 minutes then it goes immediately to 18.50 an hour detention. All my runs are preloaded when I get there.
We fuel at penske shops, meaning I drive up to fuel island and tell the attendant my mileage and he fuels the rig. BHC pays me 6 bucks a pop to do that. At the PCA location I work out of (Hanover PA), we don't have a yard jockey, but BHC pays 3 bucks per trailer move. I average 2-3 a day so 30-45 bucks every week for that, plus 12-18 bucks in fuel money. Not a lot but it adds up. Beer money if that's your thing.
What else....the larger PCA plants have yard jockeys, depends on which plant you work out of. Oh, mostly no touch freight. Some truckload but mostly LTL. Benefits seem average. 6 paid holidays at 150 per day for me anyhow. I got a nearly 20% discount on my monthly bill when I switched to Verizon. We can get what I believe is Ford X Plan pricing because of BHC auto parts account.
I started at USX for 5 months then drove for Knight for 3 years OTR. I spent many days and nights counting down the 2 hour no-pay detention window, endlessly waiting for freight, hunting empties, missing hometime dates, and all the rest. I'm making more money and working less, with more time off, here at BHC than I did OTR. I mean, I'm not rich or anything but I go home every night and have weekends off, which to me is worth something.
Well, that's my first post on these boards, hope it helps someone. Not about Aldi account but just wanted to mention PCA which I think is a decent account. Not sure what they're hiring for in PA or how the company shapes up elsewhere but things are good on my end. Not perfect! But it'll do.goose0324 Thanks this.
