Nono I wasnt meaning you man it is a good idea to look over your stuff, but the op's full page of whining about a shop that he shopped around and bargain barn picked kinda rubbed me wrong.

What do you need to do is brand your parts and take photos of them time-stamped right before you go into the place.

So if you have new Drive tires take a photo of the date on them and it will be date-stamped into your photos.

If you have new batteries get chalk or paint and put your initials on it and Snap photos of it and take those photos right before you go into the garage.

The real bottom-line truth of it is that if a shop takes anything off of your truck it's your word against them unless you can prove it.

I would suggest even taking photos of the inside of your trailer before you get loaded or before you back in.

If they damage you you have a time stamp photo that shows what the condition was.

Now I have to say it probably is the exception not the norm that shops would steal something from your truck.

But it does happen so especially if you are dealing with someone you've never dealt with before protect yourself.

Years ago I knew of a business that would let the auction company store the trucks and equipment on their property because there wasn't enough space for the auction company.

They would steal everything off of those trucks that they possibly could. Anything that their trucks needed they would steal it and replace it with junk.

I knew another guy that was just a flat-out thief. When he was Contracting not only did he stick all of the concrete and asphalt plants, he stuck the equipment companies that he bought the equipment from.

Then he went into Trucking and then went into truck repair.

You don't think he steals stuff off of the trucks he repairs for his own trucks?

Trust but verify is the best policy.

I got accused of stealing a guys batteries once after chaging an alternator for him. He "knew" I took them cause the clock on his radio was reset. After explaining that disconnecting the batteries is standard procedure before removing the cables going to the alternator to get his pos off my property and never come back. I can tolerate stupid if their money is good I wont tolerate unfounded accusations for any amount of money. Especially after giving away a half hour cleaning and spraying the batteries and cable with corrosion inhibitor since I already had the cables off.

Well I just spent all day marking and documenting all the components on my truck. Thanks for the tip. Branded all the tires, engraved all the other components, including the toilet and shower. I have been really concerned about the shop taking my sink. Still working on how to padlock my turbo, alternator, transmission and clutch. I think I’ll weld the the pumpkins in so they won’t get swapped.
    Did I miss anything?

You missed air in air tanks. They will steal it and then you can see it on ebay for sale.

I have a special mark I paint onto the parts that are likley to be swapped. And then time date photostamped picture on it.

If I dont see my mark then it's not the original that came to the shop and we will cross that bridge.

Seriously, though. I can see someone stealing parts or batteries, especially from a fleet truck where drivers never check the truck anyway. Now, to know what is commonly stolen will be difficult to determine, but batteries is likely among the most commonly stolen parts. You don’t have to swap all batteries. Just one or two batteries that are used and identical.

Why would someone take my alternator and replace it with one that is working?
