Don't get suckered in by 'free' because you know deep down it isn't. Roehl (Marshfield WI) has a good program from all reviews all over the web but since I've never driven a rig before I am going to Fox Valley Tech in Appleton WI. Top rated 2500 with all fees included I just need to secure housing for the 10 weeks and I don't feel as though I just be pushed through.

Also looking ahead and Crete only accepted WI new student school is FVTC. So good to think where you want to try and secure positions when making choices IMO.

10 weeks of school seems to be a lot of time commitment. How many classroom hours in that program, hours behind the wheel, etc.?

10 weeks is excessive, if it's all day m-f.

I Just finished the Premier Trucking School here in California, I have no complaints whats so ever. Only thing that I could think about complaining is them allowing so many students go through the school at the same time (I had over 122 other students in my class) To correct the above post, It's 6 months of commitment includes the time spent on a trainers truck.

It's an accelerated course, thus you must be ready to absorb a lot of information and be focused, determined and dedicated. Instructors at the school are cool, they aren't there to be you're friend though.

If you can get into a community college CDL program i would recommend that over anything.

Since I am on a phone instead of computer I can't cut and paste the information from FVTC. Look it up on the web it has all the accredited acronyms behind the program.

Yes 10 weeks is a long time but its not "arrive with your CDL permit" they teach you all of it. I know you can learn the majority of the tricks if you have a good trainer, or instructors but it would be my luck I'd get a wiener so I would rather be a little more prepared.

But I am still on the fence I am debating again between FVTC and Roehl.... trying to make a rational choice ;)

I got mine in three weeks with no permit. Was pretty decent training. Your trainer teaches you the most.

And don't forget with a technical college you can qualify for grants instead of taking out loans!

after reading on here for months, going thru Nj unemployment to get my CDL and listening to others. It is my belief the best courses are offered by community colleges with state and federal grant money available for attendance. The 3 week courses offered everywhere for 3-6 thousand teach you nothing except enough to get your license. Company training makes you and indentured servant for a period of time most likely team driving to get a low cost driver to deliver freight. We all do what we have to to survive GOOD LUCK TO YOU whatever you do to carry on carrying on

122 people in a class how could you get enough wheel time to learn anything. My class was 10 people and I still felt we only were taught enough to pass the test at DMV. 3 weeks on the road with a trainer helped but these first 3 months solo is trail by fire learning the most efficent way to utilize my time. I review in my mind daily how to best accomplish this trip, how i could have worked smarter last trip and press my DM for a pretrip to plan the next one. That said there are constant adjestments based on shippers and recievers whims, road conditions etc
