Alley Doc backing

    While I do double clutch some of the time, the majority of the time I float. I'm sure most drivers float most of the time. It is beneficial to know how to DC and it is also beneficial to know how to float. One skill helps the other IMHO. The problem is that schools and the DMV focus exclusively on DC and fail you if you float.

    Same goes for only looking in the mirrors during backing. While it is a good thing to be able to orient yourself exclusively with mirrors (perhaps as a way to wean you from HAVING to look out the window), in the real world it is a rare thing to only use the mirrors when backing, especially once you are jacked to the point that the only thing you can see is the side of your trailer.

    from what I was told some companies require the dc because you have more control

    I learnt from dc, I did it so much its 2nd nature, I float sometimes but I catch myself dcing much more often just because my body got so used to it I have to actually think when i float at times and I always double downshifting. I mostly float when im dealing with a lot of traffic so save my leg.
