Anybody do an Allison automatic swap in a older truck? I have an 05 Pete 387 with a C13, it is going to need a transmission in the not so distant future.

Allison to Allison or replacing something else?

From a 9 speed to an Allison. I was originally going to a 13 speed, reading many comments on the Allison with a converter gave me the idea.

I think the price alone on an allison vs 13 speed will scare you away. Never mind driveshafts, flexplate, harness and shift controls, water to oil cooler and lines, and all the labour to put it in.

I would do the install myself, I see the 4000HS transmissions for sale starting at a couple grand. I am pretty resourceful and have a shop with a few tools!!

Its going to be a huge job. As said above, they aren't cheap to buy or rebuild. You may be better off going to an AMT since it'd probably be easier to install one of those.

Not sure what the torque ratings are on those Allison's is but I seem to think its lower than your typical 13/18 speed.

Allison sez the 4000HS is rated at 565/1750. I would never consider an AMT too many problems.

I don't know what I don't know on the Allison to be honest.

I have done several square peg in round hole conversions, just nothing with these parts and pieces.
