Cullman is pretty much exactly half way between Birmingham and Huntsville. North Alabama to be general. I'm looking all these companies up so thanks for the suggestions!
Allow me to introduce myself.

I would suggest since you really have no T/T experience to go to a real school and get all the info and practice. ESPECIALLY if Uncle Sam is paying! That way you have a grasp on what to expect. I'm sure you can do a search or someone will suggest some good schools. whatever you do, stay away from the bottom feeder outfits with their own schools that require you to sign a contract to work for them, such as CR England, Swift, etc.

That's kinda the direction I was leaning Mudguppy. I certainly don't want to be under prepared. There is a school in Moulton AL I believe, that is on the approved schools list for multiple companies I've looked into so far ( Maverick, TMC, Trimac, etc.) so I will probably go there. CR England and the like are not on my list for sure. I have been able to learn quite a lot just by reading the various threads on this forum for the last year and a half. Thanks again!

I know where Cullman is.
That's a good location to drive for Tidewater Transit in Decatur. They hire new CDL grads.JTFaulk Thanks this. -
Nice! I'll check them out. I'm putting together a list and anything between Birmingham and Huntsville will be on top!

OK, Trimac and Tidewater would be the best.
Flatbed is OK unless you do regional hauling steel out of Bessemer; not enough miles to make a decent paycheck.JTFaulk Thanks this. -
Chinatown, tanker is looking like the best fit for my needs as far as lifestyle and what I want out of my career and I am definitely leaning in that direction. Thanks for the info. I had heard of and looked into Trimac but not Tidewater so they will go on the list as well. I plan to start contacting and just setting up a line of communication with some of these company's recruiters when I'm about 3 months from leaving the Army. Hoping to get a commitment from someone before I leave and go to a trucking course. That would of course be the ideal scenario.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Evergreen Transport in Evergreen,AL runs some dry bulk tankers. They just run Southeast and Texas.
5 terminals; 4 in AL and1 in TX.
SVTN is good and has a terminal in Saraland, AL.
Both these hire new CDL grads.
Tidewater or Trimac would probably be best though living in Cullman.JTFaulk Thanks this. -
Awesome! I will check them out too.
