It depends on the company and their requirements. I run flatbed. My company requires that you can lift a milk crate loaded with 70 lbs up to your shoulders.
Many companies require a "duck walk" or step up tests. It will depend on the requirements of the job you are expected to do.
I was apprehensive when I took the physical for my current gig. But even more apprehensive when I passed the physical, going from OTR dry van to securing flatbed loads. I will admit I was stiff and sore the first week. After you get used to the physical work it becomes part of the routine.
Now I look forward to the physical work. Especially when the temperatures are really cold. Then you get a chance to warm up.
I'm going on 62 this month. Take care of your health. Eat right. Get plenty of sleep.Rollr4872, Dave_in_AZ, WesternPlains and 1 other person Thank this. -
Did you have to lead with the same leg with all 20 step ups...?
What other tests gave you trouble..?WesternPlains Thanks this. -
If they do tests that go beyond the DOT requirement, it should be for a specific reason like flatbedders need to be able to climb up on the trailer and tarp. In that case, the girl is making the same as the man and is expected to do the same job and should be tested the same.
If it's not a specific requirement for the job they should not be doing the test anyway.homeskillet, Lepton1 and WesternPlains Thank this. -
Will you have to climb that ladder and crawl along the top to open the lids?
Ours are air operated and where we load they have stairs up to the second floor and then steps and a big hand rail that lowers so the drivers can open their lids, if they don't have the air openers.WesternPlains and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
These companies wouldn’t give you to have enough time to even workout. They promote weeks in a truck. You can eat at subway and walk to the fuel desk that’s exercise. They suck and I would fail the agility test on purpose. Because I’m a fat ol truck driver with a 50 waist. And I never wear pants only fleece year round.
WesternPlains and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
I said I didn't have any trouble with anything else.Cat sdp Thanks this. -

...are you in a "fleece purchase" program?homeskillet, Dave_in_AZ and WesternPlains Thank this.
