I am still with you, just been hustilin to get my last two loads so I can get home for a few days. What you present is a excellent idea and about the same as what my avenue was so we are both on the same page, once I get home and get some things done will get back to this.

My idea for now was to stop the unnecessary idle associated with the need for a power supply, the gen pacs and APU's are fine and serve but with still the need for fossil fuel. I am leaning towards a system to alleviate the APU engine.

Toyota has been doing that for years. It's called a Prius.

Found another installation video on a golf cart roof with the panel installed across a bend along with some voltage results.

Note: This company's panel is a higher voltage and more expense (per watt) to buy than the E-Bay panels.

A linear actuator like the old big satelite dishes used to have on them, but I rarely take time to move it from it's 45 degree angle I always keep it in. I also believe it helps aerodynamically with the air coming over the top of the tractor in that huge gap between the top of tractor and the top of the trailer.

I found these pictures I took of solar panels mounted "Differently" on a truck at MATS last year.

The owner claims it picks up radiant energy off the roadway that I disagree with and if these huge panels worked so good, why is the truck plugged into shore power in the top picture?

    Any opinions on this?

It look ok, the truck looks like a show truck, you would be risking a lot mounting those panels that low, unless you don't mind keep replacing the panels. Easily stolen, get hit by another vehicle, get damage by road objects etc

I would never mount panels in that configuration or location, the positions are all wrong.
