Personally I don't like U-Ship.com not because of the broker fees, but rather the shippers who think going from North Carolina (my home state) to Las Vegas NV for $600 is a fair price. I don't have an 8 car hauler to just add a car going that way. I see comments and questions being asked of the shipper about all inclusive prices and they say there way to high. I don't think these customers know the cost of running a business sometimes.

Ryan, they have noooo clue! I almost wanna reply to the cheap ######## with "I'll take your car for that much however you will need to sign a form releasing our company from any liability bc for this price it does not include insurance." It wouldn't even include a driver that I can pay enough to have common sense and care for a vehicle lol!

Agreed Clara, it's a shame too because most of us smaller companies that don't have a large fleet and high overhead can provide better service to customers but they don't look at it that way. Between low offers, U-Ship booking fees, fuel and tolls, sometimes you will be lucky to walk away with $10.00 in your pocket

That is true. Then we have no money for our own personal bills let alone important things like maintenance. Saw a 3 car hauler the other day that was all rusted through, the guy was using 2x4s on the ramps to keep the cars on. He only had one wheel strapped on each side, i know dot reg is 3 straps per car minimum. This is the kinda guy that screws it up for the rest of us. He's running illegally and making the rest of us responsible runners look bad.

We never use Uship except occasionally through a known broker. We backhaul every now and then with Central, but that's becoming a pain due to cost and brokers that don't pay. There are too many people willing to take a load for .20 per mile. Small operators are always squeezed and carry all the risks.

I see it all the time. Between the conditions of their trucks to how they treat their equipment. I know this industry is very time sensitive and having the luxury of cleaning and putting stuff away neatly can cost time and money but in the long run it will cost more when you lose a strap or something breaks. I take the time to secure with a 4 point tie down and even go as far as zip tie the excess strap into a ball around the ratchet so its not flapping around. The worst is the truck sagging. Guys overloading their trucks GVWR and the bumper is practically riding the ground. First it's torture on your suspension, its dangerous to have your front end up in the air so your steer tires barely have control and it looks bad. I went and spent the money to put air ride in just for that purpose. Now maybe not everyone has money for that but then don't overload. It takes a lot of weight to make a F-350 or Ram 3500 to sag that much, a LOT of weight. I am surprised DOT doesn't pull more drivers over.

I have been using Central a lot basically because I am still in my start up phase. It has been pretty consistant for me. I am trying to build a client base with locals but it takes time. U-Ship has completely failed me. I am glad I don't have to pay a monthly fee like I do with Central. U-Ship has e-mailed me and asked me why haven't I booked a load. I told them how can I compete with Power Carriers like Montway and these large trucking companies it's not practical for me to take a car 500 miles for $120.00 They offered me a $25.00 credit to my account to offset the fee, I'm like thanks but I can't get the loads and a lot has to do with ratings. I have no ratings because I cant get any loads. They of course had no response to that. So I am just gonna keep trucking along

I was going to go the air bag route but after speaking with my mechanic who I have been with for years now, he said I would be better off with an adjustable air shock system. His reasoning basically was it's a lot cheaper than a whole air ride and if for some reason your on a long distance transport and you blow an air bag most companies like the one I was considering don't sell just one replacement bag they want to sell a new pair. Plus finding a shop wherever I am to do a new install could be a challenge and take longer than just a shock. So I went with a pair of Monroe HD Air Shocks, and they work great. I can adjust up to 130lbs psi when I have a heavier load and than when I am empty i can bring it back down. I never have the sag problem with these shocks. They level the truck out nicely. My only concern sometimes is because I have a low trailer ( it's a sundowner car hauler ) when I put a lot of air in the rear is very low and I will scrape my plate when I pull out somewhere that has a small decline or an incline. Other than that it's great, and I don't look like an amature going down the highway
