Sounds like a bearing in the alternator.

Run the lights and everything. If the volt gauge starts dropping. it's time to have the charging system checked. The alternator could be going bad. It's not keeping up with demand.

That's what I was think but needed reassurance. The not spinning freely thing had me concerned. Is there an upgrade to be considering? I figured since I'm going to replace it now's the time to step up to something better if possible.

13.8-13.9 volts- is where my target has been for years- over 14 too much under 13.5 too little
I Like my needle just under the 14

Mine fluctuates voltage seemingly without reason and since it's not spinning without some sort of drag I think it would be a smart preventive measure to replace it this weekend.

Dirt and debris that collects around the stator is knocked loose and keeps it from spinning freely. Nothing to worry about on it's own. Only if you have low charging voltage would I worry about replacing the alternator.

When all the lights are on and the fan is set to high the gauge reads less that 13.5. I'm tossing it this weekend.

Are you going by the dash gauge? Do you have a hand held multi-meter? Before condemning the alternator, check the output voltage at the alternator stud and at the batteries first. Should be around 13.9-14.1v. Might just have a loose/dirty cable somewhere.

14.1 at the alternator and 13.6 across all the battery terminals. However, my gauge is claiming around 13. The pulley doesn't spin freely though which also had me not trusting it.

Alternator output is good. Probably need to clean cables and grounds on starter and pass-thru valve.
