aluminum 5th wheel

    They look cool on the new trucks at the dealer and it looks like they have the slip insets so you do not need grease.

    I would think that this would only be practical for owner/ops. Lord knows that most company drivers bang that crap out of a fifth wheel when connecting a trailer. Aluminum is weaker than steel and would bend.

    aluminum wheels(rims) will crack, and steel wheels will bend, so as for a fifth wheel, I guess it depends on the hardness and alloys?
    I read there was a weight savings, but a higher maintenance and cost. I think its more job specific than a replacement for the steel fifth wheel.
