Aluminum as ground is very bad.
We have a 10 foot half inch copper solid driven into the ground below the 200 amp box served by two aluminum mains that drive the meter too fast for being too hot all the time feeding house. We put a 3 foot 3 inch thick stranded copper on each of those mains then to the box top and meter. Slowed it down big time. From around 200 a month down to 30 (20 of which is fees and taxes etc)
Back home in Maryland we have copper grounds all over. Including service mains off the pole. No problems. (Our place is fed by underground service off the main transit poles outside of the area.
Aluminum has it's uses. But generally not worth a #### for grounding or electrical. Now if you drove a pair of wires with 8000 volts backed by huge watts and amps it's no problem. Copper is best. Gold really does the job but thats too pricey. We have used Stranded Silver wiring in the vehicle in the past. Once on they never give any trouble.
Aluminum ground cables?
