That might work for minor accidents but if you are seriously jacked up you will not be able to remove the camera.

If you're causing/in enough accidents that you think you need to do that, you may want to rethink your career.
(Im hoping you were joking, but some people i cant honestly tell)

At one time down here it was getting so bad before they busted the insurance scam ring working out of Houston and NOLA. I always thought of putting “the Hammers” direct number on the back of my truck under the “how am I driving ?”
    • Or in our area when “injured” by a truck the only number you need to know is “4”

Nah some of these pricks stay with you even if you slow down. Slow a little down and switch lanes if he keeps following you then you have the dash cam footage that he’s inciting an accident then call the cops which is what op did.

We are suppose to be the professionals.

Our mission every mile should be to not have an accident, an incident, or heaven forbid, a fatal.

Irrespective of who started it, running over someone at 75 mph and your life will change drastically.

This is not like driving in high school and seeing which one will blink last.

Slow down and maybe diffuse the situation and if not it, one will be at a much slower speed if it gets ugly.

Now if the guy is waving a gun out the window, he is going off the road pronto.

If one does not slow, a jury may have to decide if either driver was continuing the provocation and or could have either prevented the fatal.

One might walk away vindicated, but think of what it will cost in time, anguish and money. No load is worth that.

Exactly this. I remember back in 2015ish when a lot of these companies were putting in cameras and my company at the time was like "don't worry... these are only here to protect YOU."

Now, you brake too hard, you trigger any sensor, etc, they go off and you get a phone call interrogation. They use language like "preventable" accidents versus at-fault accidents as if to say that you can still have an accident that is your fault in the eyes of the company even when you're not at fault legally.

"Well if you hadn't passed that car five seconds ago it wouldn't have happened"
"Well if you hadn't been running late you wouldn't have been in that situation"
"Well if you had done x and not y, you could have prevented the accident"
even when the other driver caused the accident legally

Imagine getting some "preventable" accident added to your DAC because you were talking on a bluetooth headset and thats against company policy, but not illegal. Legally, the other driver was at-fault, but you were violating company policy so they rule you are unsafe. Imagine a situation where its borderline and the company would have to fight on your behalf in the court of law. Instead, they decide to settle outside of court for a lesser amount and then sue YOU to recoup, using their footage, knowing that even though its close, you can't afford the kind of legal protection they can. Any time there is a situation like that they will make that calculation... is it cheaper to use it FOR or AGAINST the driver (you)?

These companies cannot be trusted ever. They are not "one big family". You are always a number. Remember, your family can't just fire you. They can. These megas are ruthless and they will drop you in a nanosecond if it means they can make or save a buck, no matter how much it hurts your career. I've walked away from two megas without notice for pulling some dumb crap with me. Never gonna give them two weeks to replace me when they'd never give me two weeks notice to fire me or lay me off. The cameras are most definitely there for you, if being there for you saves the company time/money. If not, you're outta luck whether you were in the right or in the wrong... --it doesn't matter to them.

Viofo A119 does that. Shows a map overlay, speed, coordinates, etc. Along with the video.

Yeah, but you need to purchase the GPS unit separately. It’s only $10 bucks tho :) Great dash cam overall. Been using it since 2016 if I remember correctly. Thousands of hours of recorded video and not a single corrupt video file.
