Food service or LTL. Throwing groceries isn't exactly easy but it gets you buff and buffs up your wallet. LTL I suppose if it's p&d is exactly the same.

Yes you are asking too much. You are wanting a company that has freight to fit your schedule. That isn't possible. You want them to be able to run you like crazy for 5 to 7 weeks and then not need you for 1 week to 10 days. I can't imagine a product that meets that time frame.

What you could do is go into business for yourself and then rely on brokers to find you work. They might do that. But they have lives also. Plus you are competing with everyone else out there in the trucking industry.

If I were a shipper and I had someone who I called on for 7 weeks and then I could not get him and had to find someone else, I would not think of him as a hard worker who was there for 7 weeks in a row but as someone who after I had given him good business for 7 weeks, deserted me the 8th week.

And as for Chinatown having to use Viagra, she told me he does. But it just may have been pillow talk.

I'm not asking for that. What I mean is what I have right now. When I come off of hometime I tell them how long I want to be out, up to 5 weeks and I get a day off per week out. So If I know I want 4 days off for 4th of July(which I will have), I stay out 4 weeks prior. it works out. I just don't get paid much so I was asking if any companies allow that sort of hometime but pay closer to 40 cents then 30 cents.

I understand it's easier to get a job where I'm home for a day and a half every week and I can see how that works for a lot of people and is considered a plus. It just isn't for me. I like to go out of town, go camping, fishing trips, whatever. I didn't mean stay out 7 weeks for 7 days off. I just don't like a set schedule. So far I got 3 days off for Memorial Weekend and will get 4 off for the 4th. After that I will plan something on schedule. If it's 3 weeks away or 4 weeks or 5 -I will base my time out and hometime on that.

Choosey? Maybe. But that's why I asked the question to see if there are companies like that or if I'll have to accept that once I leave here I'll be on a set schedule somewhere.

Con-Way Truckload. I believe they hire with 6 months experience and at the 1 year mark the pay was 37cents plus a 1cpm safety bonus for every quarter without a ticket/incident. Bank 1 day every week, keep your same truck while on hometime up to 2 weeks, and there is a terminal in Taylor (Detroit). Just don't expect to average more than 2250-2500 miles/week (though lower-paid 1st year drivers do seem to get more 3000+ weeks than more senior drivers)

I fully agree with this. This is my experience as well. Resentment can build in the young ones who don't understand the nature of providing for them. Worth it to be with them more. Just my opinion.
