I remember when the gw went from 20 to something like 33 and i swore id never cross it again. No bridge was worth more than 20 bucks to cross.

You're absolutely correct. @DougA s comment earlier in the thread rubbed me the wrong way. We're different breed for #### sure and comments like his make it seem like "why am i doing this job, because its not nearly as hard as you all had it 40 years ago" if you think it is any easier today, sure we have very nice luxuries, but we still play the same game, sadly most of the same rules in 40 years still havent changed.

To me, it seems comments like douga's make us out to be failures in old timers eyes because were young, green and it is a different world than when you guys drove in your hay day.

Some clarification that just because we have hood mirrors etc. or ask stupid questions before thinking, we should not all be lumped with the non driving truckers out here. Some of us work really #### hard to keep ourselves clean.
    That is all.

I ain't calling new guys a failure just cause they are younger than me or been driving for fewer years, but no matter how hard you think you work today, its nothing compared to what it used to be before the dot started really enforcing hos.

the guys talking about how great trucking used to be tend to forget 20 hours day in and day out was expected. Do it or they will find someone willing to and you can enjoy the unemployment line.

oops hit wrong button lol .... when you ate in restaurant most of the time you can talk to the older drivers and learn things ... and a lot has to do with the trucks and the hos rules ,e logs ect ..... for the most part the cab over truck sleepers were just that ... a bunk and 3 foot of headroom so about the only thing you can do on there is sleep ... nowadays you can stand stretch out. ... tvs .. computers video games. .. so drivers spend the most of there off duty time in there. and the pilots and loves are basically gas stations and not truck stops. .. used to have a lot more independent truck stops with food of the region. . now ta in Ontario California has the same menu as lodi ohio there's still a few of the independents left but are fading fast ... what's missing is the personal connection with the other drivers

With the quality of the average driver today you are better off missing that personal connection.

As a society, we are becoming less social and more clannish. It is not a good thing. And social media is making it much, much worse.

Forums like this are not "social media" any more than a book club is FaceSpace(tm) (R). Social Media is an open and unmanageable free for all where social norms and mores are ignored and flouted. Social Media devolves into a visually slick version of 4chan very quickly. It can be fun, but it is not real and it is not social. It is toxic and corrosive if not understood for what it is and treated that way.
