Am I being unreasonable?

Most places are going to fire you for parking for 3 days because you're missing an unnecessary mirror if your is late because of it and they lose money.

 

Just out of curiosity, what would you fire him for? Not being a wise cracker, I’m really curious.

 

To be fair, he did say he ran with it. Yeah, if he insisted on sitting there for any extended period that wasn’t necessary I agree, I’d fire him to. But since he ran with it, I dunno…

 

He ran with it he's fine and I wouldn't care if he stopped along the way somewhere and got it fixed, parking and parking in fear is what would get him fired.

 

Yeah, I’m with you on that. And in answer to the original question- to ASK about the mirror is fine. But when the boss tells you you’re perfectly legal and to run with it , refusing or putting up a fight is being totally unreasonable, in my opinion.

 

i too (if i were an owner) would have told him to clean out his truck where he was, i'll be there to get it.

 

If you called me wondering if you should park and wait to for someone to bring a convex mirror I'd tell you to go find one and put it on yourself.

Yes, because we know from the bad company forum here that no owner will ever tell the driver to run illegal.....
Ask, confirm it's legal, and go. Which is what the op did is perfectly fine.
Ask, find out the boss is full of it, park the truck till the issue is fixed (say a bald tire, or whatever) Then one needs to get in a fight with the boss (maybe, depends on how reasonable the boss is), but I contend that's better than running illegal equipment.

 

correct. there are the "multi fit" mirrors that ALL truck stops sell.
