Slap my dispatcher if I didn't read this same post a couple months ago.

I started otr at 18, turned 21 in Miami with 2 years of US experiance under my belt. I quit at 23 for a dispatch position, went to work as a broker after that, and then went into upper management. On the weekends I used to bang out 2400 miles, just to get it out of my system so to speak. Im becoming increasingly unhappy with office work, and now that my kids are getting older, and seem to have thier own thing to do most weekends, I think im about to get back out on the road.
Ill probably go O/O for the company I work for now.
So to the OP, no youre not off your rocker at all. I know how boring the same old desk in the same old office with the same old people all the time can get. -
with the cost of fuel right now I would worry about the o/o part..

Yeah i dont even expect to "love" my job, i just dont want to hate it. Heck anymore i cant even enjoy my weekends hardly. I dread sundays because i know the next day i have to go back to the office.
I dont expect it to be easy, nor do i think it will be without challenges. I do think that just about anything i do will be a breath of fresh air and welcome change for a while at least. -
Joe,
I don't blame you.
I drove for 7 years. Figured the grass was greener. Got my degree in Industrial management. OMG. The only time I enjoyed myself was when I was self-employed in 2001-2003. Working in engineering, I was trapped inside a factory that had chemical residue that would eat stainless steel. Imagine what that does to your lungs over time.
I can see how it feels like a caged animal going to his kennel every Monday.
It's not a bowl of cherries. But it's a lot better than the grinder you have. -
I'd rather get stabbed multiple times than working at an office, or even worse, a mall
Some things just have no price.
Even if that means taking a dump at a port-a-potty and babysit somebody's freight for 27 hours. -
