On a lighter note, I saw a guy in the Navy reach the 20 yr. point and at the same time caught his wife messing around. He divorced her and the judge awarded her 50% of his military pension. So, what he did is just get out; didn't retire so no pension. His wife was full of rage, but nothing she or the judge could do about it. Yes, this is a true story.

Lol you gotta make sure and keep in mind that there's a lot of happy people in this industry they're just too busy to come on here and post about it.

Thank you for the input. I never even thought about buying or leasing truck starting out. It does not make any sense to me why someone would start their own business without really knowing the industry first.
-
I'm sure there are more than a few, yes.Cali kid Thanks this.

Thank you for the kind words. The whole reason I am on here is because unlike some people who just drink whatever Kool-Aide is passed their way, I consider where the information is coming from and what their interests are. I would trust info in this setting any day over what a recruiter said. The military recruiters for JB are all former military and honestly seem like good dudes, but the point still remains.

This made my day.

I was discharged from the Air Force in 1980. As I look back over the last 35 years I see I made a huge mistake getting out. I was in transportation too.

On the subject of recruiters I think a little common sense is in order. Will a recruiter lie? Yes they will. Do recruiters lie all of the time? No they don't. The same can be said of truckers. Think about it. Like I said in another thread. There is NO perfect company. Every company out there has dirty laundry they don't want spread all over the internet. If a recruiter tells you that you will make 35 cents per mile you can be pretty sure that is what you will make. However that's not the complete story in regard to your pay, most truckers should know this. I have found the best way to get good information is to speak to company drivers when you can. Ask them direct questions. Yes your very likely to get a lot of hyperbole but if you listen carefully you can get answers. Now at some point your going to arrive at orientation. This is where you really need to speak up and get your questions answered. Don't like what you hear, get up and walk out.

If you do not have a plan, it really is a huge mistake. Luckily these days most people understand that and act accordingly.
