If you go out and spend any money on running your own truck right out of the gate, you will have like a 1% change of making it. You can make good money starting out driving for someone else. Right out of the gate you can have a .40 at least as a new driver (Canadian). We do get paid a little better than out southern counterparts. This is because our money, a few years ago, didn't go as far when in the USA. There are drivers lined up to do the 4-5 day work week and home for a couple. This will not be easy to get as a new driver. You may be able to line up something where you have to leave on a thursday or friday and drive over the weekend to make it work, but generally the easier and more desirable a run is the more experienced drivers will get those loads. You could look into pulling reefer loads east to PA/NJ/MD, avoid NYC if you can (until you have say 6 months exp. - it is another animal of it's own). There is TONS of work from Toronto area and east. Loads coming back from the east also. You could look at G. Zavitz in Niagara Falls - I know they do regular runs down to Delaware and Jersey. Also perhaps Scotlynn - they have company trucks and if you decide to buy your own under someone else's authority would be a good place (NO LEASE FROM ANYONE!!!! EVEN THEM!!!!!!!!!!), Ippolito may work also they are in Brantford? I think. All of ERB drivers seem to be happy. Have never heard one angry driver from ERB. Would put them at the top of the list actually. There is also K-DAC from Kitchener area. All of these companies would be decent places to look if you want to run within 1 day from the GTA and back. Do two of those runs per week, you will get about 2000-2500 miles, all perfectly legal, should be a 4-5 day work week. Just don't be scared of the east and you WILL make money and you WILL have work.

WoW ......Thanks for the great advice and input gokiddogo, I hope most of the brotherhood is of your quality!
The Thursday through for a few days wouldn't be so bad. I'm not hard up for cash, just looking for something for the next maybe 10 years until retirement.I currently drive about 50,000 kms. a year and hoping that driving a truck will give me the same pleasure as driving a car. Like I said in an earlier post I have been around trucks all my life, I've just never driven one.
I've been fortunate over the years to be somewhat self employed, and CAN'T/WON'T find another job back behind a desk!

Are there any dispatchers out there that can provide a YES/NO answer is they would hire me straight out of school with my circumstances as stated above?

    But here they are again.

-Mature 48 Year old - 2nd career (previous office worker)
-Financialy secure - not doing it for the money, but quality of life/job
-Would prfer to be home 2 days a week....they don't have to be week-ends.
-Would get the job done.....without the B.S.

Let me know, it would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance! :yes2557:
