Your what old timers call 50/50. Never will know if you don't. May be too much if you do. I told myself I can't do this for over 34 years, every day. :biggrin_25523: Always told myself I will quit after this load. Only fools do this. Then on an Interstate in the middle of the night, a hot cup of coffee, Full moon is just coming up. The roar of the stacks behind me. Next load, I will quit.

Trucking is a great career, with the right company. With tanker/hazmat you can make a decent living and plenty of tanker jobs in Florida.

Being a chef on a merchant ship is also a great career with a 20 yr. retirement. Look at the Military Sealift Command website. It's a civilian job, not a military job. The website has a short film about the job.

If you have a clean DMV record or at least no big moving violations you should be fine. Once you get your CDL plan on never getting another violation. Truckers come from all kinds of jobs when they change careers and some have been out here their entire adult life - there's no niche anymore. The industry has a huge turnover rate, but you're aware of the pitfalls already. Good luck.

localguy after reading your thread I assume money isn't a real big issue for you if you pursue this carreer. The yr on this forum before posting you had to have read more then enough threads about low pay.I don't know what ppl mean by truking is a hard job and life.To me its not,its all what you make of it that will either brake you or make you into being successful.Too many aren't cut out for truking to begin with and will never make it.I bet dollars to donuts companies come on here and laugh at some of the questions and all the whiners. What you go thru as a chef truckers also go thru on a daily basis and some handle it well.I don't let a lot bother me in trucking beause I know the whineing complaining is not going to get you no where but the unemployment line.I personally don't think trucking is a hard and stressful life at all and I did the otr solo for 8 yrs.

Thank you pattyj. Handling stress is key in any job.

I haven't had a moving violation in over 4 years. Will be 5 by the time I start school, If I decide to persue the career.

I agree 1000%. I'll never know unless I try. Very nice post also!

The reality is you live once if there is something in life you feel in your heart that you need to do to be happy do it. But some pictures of this industry people get from the outside is decieving it is not all about the open road and freedom.. But being on here for a while you have seen a the complaints so keep that in mind but in short if it what you want in life go for it
