I think what he means is that you don't need to present a card to GET a driving job with a lot of companies since they do their DOT physicals in house and you get it that way. But, before you can START driving, ANYWHERE, whether you cane to orientation with a valid DOT medical card or you did your physical at orientation, you need to have a valid card.

Eventually this country will reach a point of common sense where weed is treated appropriately. Actual drugs that are harmful can not effectively be detected in urine unless it was literally taken in the past 24 hrs. Weed metabolites, on the other hand, stay in the system days after use (if it's in your system for weeks you're a regular user so no excuses there).

They have technology readily available to detect marijuana intoxication levels just like you can detect alcohol. If your on time off for multiple days there's no reason why they can't implement a random testing situation where they are testing for intoxication and not usage a week ago. Eventually common sense will prevail, but in the meantime we all have to follow archaic rules

It is possible that once his name was called, wether his name was in there by nefarious or benine reasons, the company could not deniy the test, feds probly wouldnt let them "not test" and maintain employment. They figured oh well, we will fix it later, now go test. He did say there was "no suspision"

Anyhow it's a fine distinction that's beside the point. Nothing to be done or learned further til regular business hours; until then it's all just conversation. I'm interested in seeing how this all turns out.
