Fair or unfair is besides the point. You work in a DOT environment and hold a CDL, on top of the fact that thier legally REQUIRED to have you in the testing pool you knew the rules when you signed for your CDL.
Am I done??

Your trucking career is not over... You must complete a SAP program & you can get hired by a company.. Will that be a company you really would want to work for? Probably not, but it will get you back in a truck & if you keep your s#!t together, after 18 months or two years you could move on. I personally know a couple of people who've been stupid WHILE employed as truck drivers who have failed a drug test & that is the path they had to take to get back in a truck.
I will not bash you for smoking weed like some of the holier than thou posters here, let he without sin cast the first stone is a really good mantra to live by in my opinion... And personally, I believe smoking weed is no different, actually better than drinking alcohol, yet I bet many of the weed bashers on here have no problem drinking a twelve pack or more while on hometime... Hypocrites aboundBB203 Thanks this. -

Within the next 5 years weed will no longer be classified as a schedule 1 drug. You can bet companies are working on finding a testing method as we speak. -
If the think straight sinners would just give up trying to make everyone live only by their hypocritical standards the world be a much better place to be.Kenworth 4life and Badmon Thank this. -
it is a compliance issue in my eyes. no right or wrong to debate about the schedule and use of narcotics. it's not like it used to be. 75% of being successful now is simply following the rules. clearly there are several involved in driving who know better than the rest of us. it's the ones who "know better" that make it easy for me to advance and remain desirable by default.
to the op: you can stay in a truck once you jump through the hoops. however, at that point, I think you'd be better off spending your time, money and resources elsewhere. -
The National Driver Register (NDR) is a division in the National Center for Statistics and Analysis under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NDR maintains the computerized database known as the Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS) which contains information on individuals whose privilege to operate a motor vehicle has been revoked, suspended, canceled or denied or who have been convicted of serious traffic-related offenses.

You have to understand that companies don't look at the fact that you failed, they look at the probabilities of 1. You failing again, 2. Personal liability, 3. Probability of a habit becoming worse, 4. Saftey on the job to yourself and others.
Insurance companies only look at numbers. They consider the possibility of you injuring yourself and others and the cost of litigation.
Having spent the better part of 25 years in management before switching over to driving, I can tell you that in 25 years because of random drug testing, I have had to fire a number of people, some were even considered good friends, but the laws are unforgiving in that respect.
The bottom line is that you screwed up.
You broke the trust of your employer and it doesn't matter if you are just a weekend partier or an everyday user, you've got some hurdles a head of you.
