The way I understand the regs from my company is this: DOT requires companies to do a random. You have a CDL though you dont drive you are still bound by the DOT's rules, despite your job title in DOT's eyes you are a driver. If your name came up in a random then they have no choice but to test you.
Btw my dad worked for a factory as a machinist and dockworker among other things. Every once in a while he would be called on to move a trailer. So, companies can ask.
Im sorry your going through this. Not sure of your story but hard for me to have compassion for anyone doing any illegal drugs. Lost three cousins in one month last year to drug overdoses. Stupidity. Just because they have an urge to get high cost them their lives. Also, they said they werent addicts either.
Am I done??

Wow. Just, wow. Read this thread to The Hot Chick...she's actually stuck in a facepalm, shaking her head.
OP is so deep in denial he can see the pyramids.
Choices, consequences. You are free to do whatever you choose to do, man. You are not free to escape the consequences of your choices, for good or evil. You chose to use an herb that you knew to be illegal. It didn't matter if you were a dockworker or a driver or a barber or a camel groomer. You live in an environment where it is illegal in many states to use that herb. You knew it, you choose to use it anyway, you got busted, and now you seem to think that the consequences do not apply to you because you weren't doing a driving job.
And you're kicking back at every person on this forum who is pointing out this simple, inescapable fact to you--that you have derailed your trucking career. So, you've shot back some good, snarky comebacks. What has changed? Your driving career is still over. Do you think you can argue your way into some cushy trucking job here on this forum? What exactly did you hope to accomplish by asking your question here, if you were just going to argue with everyone who tells you like it is? Are you thinking that if you argue your case here well enough that you will miraculously be able to get a local driving job or sign on with a regional LTL carrier? You asked and were answered, by people wiser than yourself. Your driving career is effectively over. You did it to yourself; I doubt anyone put a gun to your head and FORCED you to use your gentle, benign herb. You have a choice--you can continue to argue and plead your case here in complete and utter denial of incontrovertible evidence of reality (which is the classic behavior of a TEXTBOOK EXAMPLE OF A DRUG ADDICT), or you can man up, accept the consequences of your actions with dignity, find a way to get help, and be about the business of finding another career. Your life is NOT OVER--just your driving career. There are plenty of people who have wrecked themselves and recovered and are thriving. Some of them appear on this very forum. Perhaps your energy would be better spent seeking out a different career path and the requisite education than continuing to flog this dead horse.
Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I've never used drugs, but there are other ways to piss away a perfectly good career. I'm still alive and doing fine.
You should maybe consider this experience an education--education always costs. The more valuable the lesson, the greater the cost.
Good luck.scottlav46, Lonesome, 1johnb and 5 others Thank this. -
(Several posts showed up while I was typing my long winded post. It works better if you ignore everything after "You won't be driving anything bigger than a pickup." PattyJ said it better, nicer, and quicker than me. And your responses showed I may have misjudged your character. It takes a real man to own up and accept criticism. Good luck to you--I mean that)
