It's cheap and easy for companies to advertise jobs on the internet so tha is where most of the ads are. Overcome whatever is keeping you from looking online. Indeed.com has plenty of driving jobs. Craisglist.com has more driving jobs, but some of them are lower quality and some are better. Avoid 1099 jobs. Only work as a W-2 company driver or you are setting yourself up for being ripped off and owing the IRS for the taxes you were not paying. 1099 jobs will claim to pay you more, but they are "forgetting" to mention you should set aside 30% of your pay to pay the taxes the IRS will demand almost 3 years later so they can get interest and penalties from you and your "boss". 1099 is a scam unless you bring a truck to work that you paid for. 1099 is a tax cheating scheme for the employer.

You're in a good location. There's plenty more jobs available other than what's already been posted.

Because that’s time that I also need in order to get back home. Given we’re only allowed to work 14 hours in a day, I have to ensure there’s at least 2 hours at the end of my last load so I can get home. It’s also time that I’m spent in the truck.

Well, in my case, it was either I take these local runs, or I get let go. I was underperforming as OTR the last couple months, feeling trapped in a box all the time. Never home, physically inactive. I wasn’t in a good place.

So when my dispatch told me he had some local work for me, weekends optional, and I can be home by 6pm every night, I took it. I didn’t realize how little these loads would pay, until I actually started running them.

If the idea of hauling HazMat doesn't appeal to you, just get the other endorsements and haul bulk or food-grade tanker as seen in some of those ads, or go with one of the dry van or reefer outfits on some sort of regular dedicated run. On the web, I'd check Indeed.Com first, but don't forget to check out the local & county gubmint openings as well... you never know when one of those CDL-A jobs with the gubmint will pop up on the job market. o_O

If you're okay with hauling Hazmat, don't write off those environmental service outfits that haul hazardous waste... some of 'em have nice equipment and the pay is usually pretty good. I drove for an environmental service outfit in San Diego, hauling lead solder waste from Dago clear to Western PA and GA, and it was the easiest driving job I ever had. New trucks & lease wagons too, with everything palletized, and speedy unloading at the destination.
