Anyone know if the op made any head way on the subject or if he just gave up on the industry or what?

Before you make any commitments to any schools, make sure you have spoken to few companies ahead of time to see what they have to say. Don't ask the recruiters at the schools! Of course they are going to tell you that you are hireable. You are about to give them $6000! They could care less if you get a job or not. They will tell you whatever you want to hear until you sign on that dotted line!

So do your homework ahead of time. Personally I don't think you are going to have a problem. Take the time to write yourself a good resume and you will have this on hand whenever somebody wants to know your history. It helps tremendously and makes you look like you are professional and serious about the job.

I also highly advise you stay away from the mega-carriers or top 5 ie; Werner, Swift, England, CRST etc... Go for the smaller companies. Not only will they be more forgiving with your past but your chances of success will be substantially higher!

    Good luck man...

I definitely have not given up :)

I just had my appointment today with the DOR, to get school funded, after submitting my request back in November. Basically I just plead my case as to why I need this schooling in order to get my CDL-A and a job, thus getting off of SSDI. She told me she was going to run it by her supervisor, contact the school I want to go to and get back to me in 2-3 weeks. I feel pretty optimistic about it, I just wish it would happen quicker.

Once I know I can get my school covered, and I have a clearer idea when I'll have my CDL, I'm going to start conversations with companies in order to get pre-hires. I'm leaning towards getting on board with one of the major companies, mainly because I can't find any smaller companies that hire recent graduates. Anyways, I'm really focused on getting started and at least a year of safe experience! :)

    Bones2384 Thanks this.

Glad to hear that you have not given up. I am interested in how this turns out. As I am in a similar situation.
