And one can have some status on the cheap. I picked up a one owner 2006 Cadillac CTS with 51,000 miles in immaculate condition a couple of weeks ago for $9100. I did some basic maintenance to it. It runs like a champ and will get up and go. Leather interior, heated seats for winter. A/C that will cool a refer trailer (exaggerating). Sun roof and full luxury package. Burgundy exterior with Cashmere interior. My net last year was $80K, but why spend for new when I could get a deal like that! No one wanted it because it has rear wheel drive. Go figure!

Depends what kind of "expensive" car. Any thirty thousand dollar millionaire can get financed for a new Beemer 3 series. But try that with a $90k 7 Series and you'll get laughed out of the dealership.

My theory is if you can pay it off in 1 year you can afford it. If you can write a check for it right now you can really afford it. If you have to wait till Santa Claus comes and goes 5 or 6 times before you own it you're just fooling yourself into thinking you can afford it.

I would proviso that one. Many car dealers are offering 0% financing. If they offered me 0% financing for 4 or 5 years, I would jump on it. Who cares if the payments are stretched out that long, the same amount is paid.

I get what you are saying and used to think along those lines. The housing collapse and it's effect on trucking taught me the error of my ways. I had to sell all my zero interest and low interest stuff for a lot less than i had in them. It took several years to get out of that mess. Never again. From now on its paid in full or i don't want it.

Not a thing wrong with that. One does have to balance things.

They refer to it as "Bulk" because you are unloading entire pallets of soda, not yanking 2 cases of 7Up, a case of Dr Pepper, and 3 cases of Squirt off of a side bay at every mom and pop gas station.
