Problem is, as an industry, we are paid by the mile. People are generally not being rude or lazy per se they are just getting tired of working for free. If companies would pay for shop time I'm sure the problem would disappear almost overnight,
And before I get jumped on, I don't do it. Bennies of running local is I'm at the shop/yard every day so every minor thing get fixed quickly.

Am I wrong for being this angry?

The problem with that is there would be far to many that would take advantage of it and refuse to move until things like was already mentioned, a sprung door, a tire wearing funny that is still legal, etc. Because if you can nit pick something that is not a safety or compliance issue, sit around waiting for it to get fixed all the while being paid for it, this will costs companies huge amounts of money, and people think that most companies don't pay enough now.mje Thanks this.

This has been an issue for as long as there have been drop trailers, and it isn't likely to go away soon. But dang straight on the being po'd about it!
My worst one ever? This is 25 years ago, so first thing after charging the trailer was to go under and adjust the brakes. Brand new shoes, RF snugged right up, LF? The cam was on the wrong side, meaning most likely the RR was wrong too. LR was missing the rollers. It gets better. All the rear axle tires were flat-spotted almost to the bottom of the tread. So neither brake on the axle was functional, but the tires were ruined? (Almost brand new tires, too.)
And of course when I call in the next morning, I get the ration of crap about ruining brand new tires from the shop. "Read the work order on the brakes last night b4 you start cussing me, you idiot!" Shop foreman never liked me after that, I think the operations manager made good on his promise of a butt chewing.

I bet if your company paid their drivers when they are waiting on repairs this type of thing wouldn't happen.
scottied67 and mje Thank this. -
if its an mt I just drop it and get it red tagged then move on to another trailer, being loaded is a whole other story though. I think if its a safety issue then yes a company should pay for the down time to get it fixed.
mje Thanks this. -
Worst ever trailer i picked up:
Left front on trailer, wheels turning and drum standing still.
Yes,you read it right, wheels turning and turn standing still.
Shop pulled the wheels off and drum was broken off just past the bolts (in a nice circle),previous driver had "secured" the drum by turning the adjustment all the way so the pads were jammed against the drum.
I didn't get mad..................but then i was paid hourly.
mje Thanks this. -
just a guess, what u said to dispatcher/maintenance that worries you... OH you are So FIRED!, just like the guy who didn't ##### when he should have!
NO, unless you somehow got personal w/ insults... otherwise your fine. Truth is only the good drivers, with legit complaints would care, and you say a few bad words... potty mouth!
I can't speak for whomever you drive for, but every company I've driven for does have a break down policy and reimbursement after 2hrs.
However this is not a break down and should be noted on every piece of paper u got. This either makes you an hourly employee, or should eliminate 2hr wait period... <---I've argued that and won more than once.
Sorry to use your thread as a soap box... but how insane is it to hold the last driver responsible for lost time w/ trailer repair? <--- that might just get some drivers heads out of areses when u deduct pay and give it to driver who does care.mje, MZdanowicz, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -
And this is why,
I pulled the same trailer all the time.
Drop and hook is NOT all it's claimed to be !NavigatorWife, CondoCruiser, Lone Ranger 13 and 4 others Thank this. -
I lost it in a respectful manner. Didn't get too crazy. I did stress the safety aspect to it. We do get paid for breakdowns too. It just doesn't make any sense that a driver would pull this trailer like this.
mje, TheDude1969 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
This is what happens with the big influx of new drivers coming into the industry. Not that it didn't happen years ago but it was a rare occasion you picked up a really bad trailer, unless thats all your company had.People nowadays are all me me me.They push their problems off on others and don't care one bit about safety or what happens to the next driver.Unfortunately companies never really act on the driver who did it so they never learn their lesson.I know I've mention some issues with trailers to drivers within my company and they look at you and flat out tell you,not my problem. You have a right to be mad but drivers will continue to do this so until it changes drivers like us will sit at shops with bad trailers while these idiots fly down the road with unsafe trailers handing their problems to everyone else.
NavigatorWife Thanks this.
