AM Radio Performance

AM Radio???? Do you also have an 8 track in your truck?

Obviously you don't listen to Rush so I don't expect you to understand the need for several hours a day of AM radio.

Here is a list of AM radio stations that have been declared "clear-channel" stations in North America. And yes, WBAP (820 AM, Ft. Worth, TX) is one of them.

 

I've been in two different Freight shakers, a 2012 M2 and a 2014 M2. . . . 2012 had a factory CB antenna with diplexer for the AM/FM radio, and factory CD AM / FM. . . 2014 has a dedicated AM/FM antenna with a factory AM/FM/CD/MP3/Bluetooth/USB/Line-in radio. . . . neither truck were any good for AM reception . . . . my company is located about 30mi north of Boston and we can barely get WRKO 680 which is a 50KW station (which used to feature Rush but still has Howie Carr). But I can get into my 97 Lincoln or my 92 GMC after work and get the same station for another 30 miles north to my house, clear as a bell . . . . . I just don't think the newer radios have the kind of attention to AM reception that the older ones have. . . . sad, AM still is great for traffic and those of us that enjoy talk radio!

 

Yep. I've also noticed that AM stations that were difficult to make out come in a bit clearer (with less background static) if the truck is turned off. But agreed, the newer radios just have no AM antenna coil that works worth a dam- But I'm not sure a "better" AM radio/antenna would work much better in the electrical environment of modern trucks/cars

 

Why yes, yes I do. I removed the CB from the factory location and added an AM/FM/8Track/CB combo from the 1970s. I don't have a reception problem.

I have several adapters that let me listen to cassettes and CDs on it.
I can even listen to my ipod and phone over it.

When I take a ten hour break, I fire up the old record player and download a couple of records onto my laptop. I also fire up the ol' BataMax or VHS and download a tape or two onto my laptop.
