Any of my fellow drivers licensed and active Ham operators? Currently running an ICOM 7000 HF with the A75 Tarheel. This past week I started diving into the world of DMR radios. After purchasing an Anytone d878 UII plus and a pi-star to create my own access point making me able to hit the digital realm from nearly everywhere.

I run a Yaesu FT-891 with a Little Tarheel II. I have an Anytone DMR ht but I don't usually bring it in the truck with me. I have a pi-star hotspot, but I rarely use it. It's not really my thing. It seems like it's just an internet chat room that happens to use a radio for a microphone. What I would like though is a portable Allstar node so I can patch into repeaters back home when I'm in the truck.

    VolvoTerry Thanks this.

Terlingua, I get what you are saying. It is definitely not the kind of Ham radio i have been active in since 1980. But this was an area my father was interested in so I decided to jump in and learn a bit about it.

Only running 2 meter fm. I do have a 1o meter capable radio but antenna is not quite broad banded enough without running a tuner Bought a DMR radio but every time I had a few minutes to work on building a codeplug I missed a step somewhere. Gave it to one of the amateur radio clubs I belong to.

You can download a working code plug and just Mod it for what you what to have, fairly simple.

My father had been given a working code plug so he shared it with me and I used it to start with as a beginning spot. However I found there was some kind of glitch on my anytone D 878 UII plus. Out of the box I could monitor 2 vfo/channels. However after loading the code plug i could not enable the Dual Watch. So I reset the Radio and rebuilt the code plug from scratch and now I can Dual watch. Running APRS on one (scanning 146.52 at the same time) and my Pi-Star repeater on the other slot. It has been interesting and a bit of a brain tease.

I attempted to download a codeplug, but did something wrong. In the end I just wasn't interested enough to dedicate the time. Decided to pass the radio on before it was obsolete. The software for that radio was being updated quite often.
