There is the problem right there...How many times have you seen trucks idling when it wasn't necessary?
Too many to count, I'd bet!
Idiots out here screw it up for the rest of you so now you all have to live with these idle policies...Once again "driver have brought this on themselves!"
I can idle any time I want to...most of the time my truck is shut off when I'm parked!
Here's a hint! If you look around and see the majority of O/O trucks not idling...Shut it off!
Trucking is not for sissies!

trucking isnt a competition from where im sitting as a company driver either.
i would prefer idling to rolling the windows down, for more than a few reasons also..but i am a team player,i idle when i think it can be helped, but if the company can keep me running(3k miles),i tend to keep idle below 40%.
i get the message from alot of you old school drivers, but i disagree completely,im out here working 24/7 as far as im concerned and the bottom line is that if you dont treat your body right, you WILL lose your health, and i have been in a 80 degree trk trying to sleep, blood pressure went up etc...
homie dont play that game anymore. -
i think it is also up to the company to provide you with some for hvac if they dont want you to idle--weather if is a apu or just a bunk heater for the winter--a person cant really be expected to suffer just for the company to make more money---has anybody ever seen the heat or ac turned off in the office ?????

in trucking some of these companies not only expect it,they demand it...BUT IM NOT AT THAT COMPANY!!!!

Can you move sensor from mirror to the inside of cab and be able to idel without truck shutting down someone help me my truck has been deleted but laptop shows error when trying to delete the idel shutdown
-
Ours are on the drivers side mirror. Grab a box of self adhesive toe warmers and stick them on the sensor. They last about 4 hours and keep it above our 90 degree threshold.

There are wiring harnesses that route to these sensors sometimes fused sometimes not. It might be possible to have a faulty fuse that is not completing the circut but could be denied by a computer software selection that disallows it running if the sensor is not valid.
You being on dedicated to sleep somewhere presumely at home is a good situation I think. I hope so.
I chafe at the idea that either the company fails to provide hotel support to maintain a constant cab and sleeper temperature for the driver health by idling or by APU big enough to do it or some other means maybe a big heat pump able to be reversed and provide 15000 btu of heat and cooling off 12 volts. (Not sure where its possible...I think so.) even a small APU can feed this thing.
I have run a sleeper installed bunk heater once with fans fed by battery for a partial day with engine off out of necessity. It still burns diesel in a small way to get the heat going. It did well, but not something I would want to use regularly. Cooling is another problem. One workaround is a stacked 220 mm fans driven by the old CB power taps off the dash at high amp rate forcing air into a 5 liter or gallon plastic bucket with ice. It's temporary until all you have is water but if the atmosphere is sufficent dewpoints outside you end up with a drippy cab interior and so on.
I refuse to accept that a truck will shut off in winter daytime 45 and then be at 20 overnight having to be cranked. It's not something I can accept. Engines always on + winter = life and whatever is hot in the valley will be 10 and 2 feet over the pass later.
Im willing to walk away from a employer that does this. If it is the cost of fuel then bill me. But I will run that #### engine or APU. If I am taking home 1200 a week net, then 20 in fuel each night will be a minor annoyance easily paid which is about what it will go through over 10 hours. The risk of temperature swings against my ability to put away 11 hours is not worth having to shut it off.
I have worked for companies like DM Bowman who liked to pay 70 dollars over and above pay each week for the pleasure of shutting off the engine at every traffic light, every block. With air start it's not a problem. With electric start it got to where the motor will burn out, get a tow and replace it a few times a year. It's their money and equiptment not my problem. Ive kept idle between 1.5 to 3% at most most weeks. Once in a while I do not shut off for anything in storms during winter and accept that there is no payment for idle bonus that week without complaint and endure the yelling that corporate always insist on. Among other things. It would be a outstanding outfit if they would just back off the suit time.
