I find it funny when people use term(s) they don't know what they mean.

SADLY even many of the HAM amps are at best not very linear.
Like my 2 meter one ....Attached Files:

The way he sets it up is to run it with the power turned all the way down it will be around 2 watt dead key and swing to around 90 or so. You will find if you turn the power up it will swing alittle less as I did with mine. Glad you like it and glad Doud with custom cbrepair took care of you.

Then perhaps you would care to explain why the vast majority of AM transistor amplifiers are sold as Class C amplifiers to CB hobbyist? An AM signal can be modulated through a class C amplifier resulting in a 360 degree sine wave which results in the harmonics that these amps are known for.
Or are you saying that these competition style amps are configured in an AB bias and simply misrepresenting them as a class C amp? I'm not here to argue and start pissing contests. I'm giving information that I have learned over the years and if I have misinterpreted that information I ask that those who know better set me straight without being a wise guy.outerspacehillbilly and MayhemAutoTransport Thank this. -
1) TRUE Class C amps do not pass AM modulation.
2) AB or B or A class amps do.
NOW THAT SAID .... Even class c amps have a linear region at low drive a good example is my Mirage which realy is more class C than AB.....
To be a TRUE linear amp the output would have to go up the same from the lowest drive to the highest and NONE do .... even the old tube ones have a turn on and compression point ....

So how would you classify the so called competition class C amplifier's such as those made by DaveMade, Fatboy, Joker, NoName, SkullCracka etc, that the CB guys use at key downs and general users who use them for big power compared to your AB style amps such as TexasStar and cobra amps and such?

Power has nothing to do with class you can build any class to any level you want.Big_m Thanks this.

Care to comment on the RM Italy KL203P? I'm sadly lacking in amp biasing theory. What class biasing does this little amp use? I've read reviews but none described the biasing circuitry. (It's possible my Alzheimer's is clouding my memory here - if so I apologize.)
I will be installing one driven with my 29LTD Classic. Dead key will be set with additional 1N4003s in series with the D8 anti-spiking diode, not with any modification to the modulation limiting circuit.
I may bend the rules from time to time but I do want to bend them cleanly.

I used one back about 10 years ago on FM .... If I remember it is class c but looking at the diagram looks more ab or b ...Last edited: Mar 21, 2011
