That is a 90 to 100 watt peak radio as it is. How much more power are you thinking you need?

almost gonna need a straight 6 pill to handle the output of that radio.

Yeap that radio needs a big amp..Nothin less that about 600 watts..More to it than i know about but to do it right its gonna cost you a grand....I sorta threw the idea at mark sherman and that was his reply..At the sam time i was debateing an 2970n4 but was told the recieve of th 955 will have me spoiled compared to the n4

Have you heard SOA752 out of Texas on the air? He said he’s running a 955. That is one good sounding SSB rig. He dominated my receive from Grand Bay, AL all the way to Marianna, FL.

Nope..i rarely get past the carolinas....Most of the time its over modded radios that just 5 ch anove and below the ones they are on..Poorly tuned...They all seem to sound pretty much alike in what they say and repeat, repeat, repeat themselves..

A straight four transistor amp is plenty big enough for that radio. It's only a 70-80 watt radio, not 100 plus like a lot of people like to think they are.

Lol sooo true...@ 60-70 range they get their best performance with clean audio
@ 100 wattts its a over heated scatter box..
But with the proper tune and a good antenna set up it will perform like 100 plus watts..

    Dirtymartini15x Thanks this.

Since the newer Chinese transistors have drastically less gain, you'll need more transistors to make up the difference.
Eight 2sc2879 transistors would be a minimum I'd recommend.
