for my truck ot was about $625 but you give them your truck make and model and your engine and they make up a complete installation kit for your truck so when you get it you have everything you need for installation
-
I am thinking around 625 as well

They must have raised the price.I paid around 500.oo about 2yrs ago.

Hey, Guys when I look at these from the parts and materials standpoint, it doesn't look like even $500- worth of technology. It looks to be worth more like $100-. Can someone explain why the price is so high?

I'm building my own system from PVC with a trans cooler before it for around $150. I'm basing it off the GC filter system using Scott paper towels(Brawny) as filtration element with a leg from some panty hose stretched over it to catch any loose fibers.
The spinner system at least has the machining and design elements to warrant the money. What is the cost of the spinner 960 unit?
The "grid switch" offered by spinner co. looks like a viable piece of technology to run reguardless of what filtration system is being used.Last edited: May 17, 2009

Because they know how much money it will save you

The hard part in making your own would certainly be that modification of the existing oil filter in/out manifold and associated threads. I wouldn't use PVC because with the warm oil flowing through, it microscopic PVC molecules that are essentially related to toxic PCBs, will become introduced into the oil supply. I'd go ahead and pay a machinist to make a couple of parts from steel or aluminum, if necessary, as this should be more than a $200- part. The filter can be a ball of cotton yard? There are water filters made of cotton yarn.
7mouths2feed Thanks this. -
I have a friend that has a small machine shop set-up so I could probably get him to help me make the can and screw top. -
Ok, right, I guess if there's an external oil line, that would be the place to tap into the system. Some commercial system have an adapter that screws on the standard filter, with in/out manifold, then has a place to thread the standard filter.
The reason I thought PVC might be a problem is because it's not acceptable now to use that even for cold water domestic house water piping because of leeched toxins. Naturally, anything that leeches toxins and may be burned is not helpful even in the oil system.
Come to think of it, I suppose a short piece of large diameter pipe with threaded ends, and threaded caps would do the trick. These aren't hard things for a machine shop to produce. Then just tap into the metal contain the threaded in/out ports. If the cap is threaded, then obviously it can be removed with a filter wrench, and cotton stuffed into the filter container.
