Well I will admit it when the ears broke off my yoke my 115k pound rocketship went from 18 to 55 mph in a split second there was no stopping it just a fight to the bottom with smokin brakes and a fresh hole in the seat haha.

Exactly. Even by his story it was still in gear when everything shut off, it hadn't gone into neutral. I've had all power shut off in a truck. I stopped immediately.

I've had my engine die coming off Rogers pass in bc due to wiring issue.. I had zero problems stopping it with 61,000 lb water load roughly 100,000 gross on a 6% plus grade because I was going PROPER speed to start

I always descend a hill like I learned at Stevens when we had no Jake brakes. But instead of using the brakes I let the engine brake do all the work. Descending Cabbage fully loaded at 25 mph may seem like forever but I make it down every time without pulling into arrowhead with smoking brakes. :)

Not a fan of the AMT but the story sounds a little contrived to me: After things start going bad why don't you use those "cold brakes" to drop that truck down to a safe speed. Pop a drum, ruin a lining, ruin a tire, who cares it's you life and your son's!

But was the transmission and engine still "engaged " and effectively working against any braking action? (Not wanting to go to neutral)

Again, a potential problem with an auto you won't have with a manual.

Manual "mode" isn't manual. It's still electronic. I will take a mechanical link from my hand to the trans thank you.

glad you got stopped because that was driver error too. Do a better pre-trip. DAF105Paccar would fire you on the spot.

Why are your undies in a bunch I never referenced you in my post.
I simply stated a truth. No matter how prepared you THINK you are. Until the emergency happens you have no idea how you will actually handle it.
Loose the chip on your shoulder.
