An intro and a question about drug testing.

    For the last couple of weeks I’ve been doing a lot of reading, both the FMCSA rules and trucking forums, concerning the regulations that this truck falls under. I was looking for something that would allow me to register this as a for private use, non-commercial vehicle. I haven’t found any way to do so other than the RV route and even that is questionable, at best, considering what I’m going to be using it for. I am going to take RockinChair’s advice and stop at a Texas DPS office and ask them about it but I have a feeling that they’re going to tell me that I’m going to have to go with the commercial registration.

    I was quoted prices of over $6,000 per load. Times that by five and I was looking at over $30,000. In the past I’ve paid to have machinery hauled and I didn’t begrudge paying the rates. After all, trucking is a business and and everyone is in it to make money. But I’ve always thought that it would be nice to be able to move my own machines in larger quantities than a rental truck or trailer would allow and I figured that if there was ever a time to get my own truck, it’s now. I also know that I’ll use it in the future for other machines that are in the 20,000 to 30,000 pound range.

    That may be better, that's just a truck then go to the DMV and ask for them to convert the title to a pickup truck. I have heard this done a few times with a day cab.

    Then there is no issues, it is an oversize pickup.
