I always considered them to be the Flying Wallendas of trucking, walking the DOT tightrope

The 8 days I'm guessing is because that's as far back as the dot can look at your logbook in a roadside inspection

In that 8 day period one could get another job and be working. Have them come pick up the truck whenever it’s convenient for them.

Our safety would prefer we drove say 5-10 mins over vs incorrectly using PC. The points hit for a small violation is significantly less than a “log falsification” violation.

There are two violations that are generally given with PC- Improper Use and Falsification. I believe the improper use of PC is a minor violation compared to the falsification. If one is going to use PC improperly then they should anote it as such then if inspected they won't get the Falsification violation.

Not sure what they are doing. As someone else said using pc to leave the customer, especially loaded is a gray area. That could get the driver a falsification and an hos violation instead of just a hos violation. A little birdie did tell me that they are willing to turn on pc for a driver to run to the store ect on their reset. I’m sure it’s limited to just a few hours. I personally haven’t tried it myself.

On another note they are finally telling us to just keep a set of tarps on the truck like most companies do, but with a slight twist. If you pickup a conastoga you’re supposed to leave your tarps with the trailer. Once you get back under an open trailer you will be issued a set of tarps. That will work well in Arlington, but not anywhere else. I think I’ll just keep a set on the truck.

Over here, they want you to be out of hours before you use PC to leave a customer to find a safe parking spot. I have done that once and noted it as ''loading took longer than expected, not allowed to park at shipper, proceeding to closest available parking" and our safety department didn't call me.

Loaded or not it does not matter. One could be out of hours at a receiver and use PC improperly to advance an empty trailer towards a shipper and that is the same as advancing a loaded trailer towards a receiver.

There are still some good people over at SPD. The Wichita people. Some of the best leaders quit or got fired over the years and nobody filled those positions the same way. If it's Tracy who just left for health reasons then that makes me sad. He is a super nice dude. His job is stressful dealing with a changing company and unhappy drivers. I was one of them.

You are now allowed to PC move with or without a trailer, loaded or empty to the closest safe/legal parking if the customer runs you out of hours and doesn't allow parking to complete a break...company permitting
