Got a job already thanks.. In the oil feilds but thanks for the suggestion he asked how it was going for mw and I answered honestl. Sorry pasquale not all of us are have been trucking for years and what they teach you in CDL school is about just enough to get your cdl. There is much more to learn and thats where company training comes in. There really is no reason to get snide. The company was a good company just not the best in regards to second phase training. Luckily for me I found a good companie in the oil field. Great pay osha 10 certfication and H27 certified and got excellent training. Now if you think having a trainee drive limitedly and back up 3 times in 5 weeks is good practical training then so be it but to me it didn't seem very sufficient. I have stayed in touch with all my ex classmates. All went with bigger companies and all drove 100% of the time for 4 -6 weeks while doing all the backing. The fact is not all of us are born super truckers and the key is good training. But there are a lot of conpanies out there that will give you great training and some that will rush yiu though giving you very little in the way of practical instruction that is helpful. Then send you out there on your own where you get into a bind where you don't know what you should do. Then you screw up your dac and no company will hire you. It happens everyday. Sojourn my best advice is make sure whomever you go with has a good training philosophy. Cause I don't know about you but I spent thousands just to get my cdl so you want to be sure your setup in a good situation. Having a trainer scream yell and curse at you really doesn't make for good results. As previously stated I found a good conpany and I made extremely good pay now and got really good training. Walmart won't be necessary pasquale lol..

Newbtrucker, thanks for your honesty and your advice. You're right, that was not a good training situation. If I am not allowed to drive, back, and do everything else required, how will I learn?
-
Thanks sojourn I can tell you this. 4 of ny ex classmates went with schneider and all had shining reports regarding there training as well all have said they treat there company drivers very well for being a large carrier. Might want to research them.
-
When a driver applies to Webber, how long does it take from application to hire date? Is that time normal among trucking companies? I'm curious if small companies move as fast as the mega carriers, which seem to be able to start orientation a week after the application is received.
-
They check your work history so it depends on how long your previous employers take to answer
-
That sounds better than what I heard the mega companies do - bring you in to orientation, then send you home because something did not check out. One of the advantages of smaller companies.
anm2ant Thanks this. -
Hmm idk about that. They didn't call my last two previous employers. I applied online on a wednesday and was hired on Thursday. They didn't seem to thorough in there checks. That's just my experience..
-
They wouldn't bring me on until they talked to my employer I had to call and make them talk to mark it took a couple weeks for me
-
Interesting you had different experiences. Both of you are/were based in Kankakee?
-
From what I was told by my trainer is that they used to be very stringent in there hiring process. They just started taking student drivers this past year as they weren't getting enough drivers and too many trucks were sitting. They are pretty thorough on criminal checks but due to need they have become less stringent the last year..
