A whole lot of owner operators are going to be scrutinzed and ticketed for e-log violations because:

    1) companies pushing e-logs to owner-operators and small fleets do not have their software functioning at a level that can be put under the DOT microscope. Those companies will not suffer but their users will.

Fleets who have been on e-logs for years with the major players will be fine. Bugs have been worked out.

Fly by night outfits and established companies very skilled in one field who decided to make a bit more on ELDs will be exposed.

You're going to see a lot of "I was running X company's ELD but I got shut down!" posts.

Like I said, the owner operators and small fleets will be paying fines and suffering because X famous companies pushed out a product not even close to being ready for real world use.

For guys like me with one truck, even though we run 100% legal, it's hard to drive with piece of mind knowing your ELD log books probably would not pass inspection.

The computer hackers and anarchists aren't looking at this situation correctly yet, perhaps they have.

They sit around embedded to their PCs to come up with a virus just to F with people, or crack some data bank.

Now they have a real mission.

    It's all about programming.

Somebody is gonna make a TRUCK LOAD of money and put the wood to Uncle Sam in the process.

Ladies & Gentleman I give you the American Dream.

I live 10 minutes from the tarpon capital of the world. They are constantly pulling in 150+ lbers. I was checking the local reports a few minutes ago and a 180 lber was snagged at the mouth of the myakka river last week. From what they claim its an hour long fight just getting in the small ones. Idk, biggest thing I've caught was a 36 inch snook last fall and a couple 20 lb redfish. Going out again tomorrow for redfish. Hoping to put my little girl on one. So far a 6 lb bass is her biggest catch.
Oh and goliath grouper are big down here to. There is even a push that's gaining ground to lift the harvest ban on them cause their numbers have grown so much you can't hardly catch anything else when fishing the wrecks off shore. I'd crap myself if i ever hooked one of them. How the heck am i supposed to get a 500+ lb fish in the boat?!

Oh also you need to get off shore. Go fish the oil rigs. They are loaded with fish. Cobia, drums, snapper, ladyfish, just about everything.

That would be an interesting piece of equipment to play with but it would take a lot of thought to make it work out with the eld.
Plus one mistake and your drive line is written in granite.

I was talking to a gentleman this past winter down there about tarpon fishing.
I asked him what it was like to get one on the hook?
He said it’s like hooking on a Volkswagen Beetle at 60 mph lol.

All you need is a Zebco 33 or 202. Get a 10 lb test line, lighten the drag up, and just slowly reel it in. Easy as 1.2.3. Oh, and redfish is one of my favorites, so light and rich.

    ^^^ THIS ^^^

My company went to "ELD's" last summer. Technically it's an AOBRD system (Rand McNally). Because we are 100% O/O's with a wide variety of trucks, there have been glitches aplenty.

My RM might only log half the miles I drive, IF it detects drive time at all. I have to keep tabs on a written ledger of miles from stop to stop and correct the logs manually. Sometimes it never detects drive time at all. It's a crap shoot. Rand McNally has "been aware of the issue and are working on a fix" since last year. Still waiting.

And if this is happening with all small ELD vendors (which it is!!)

then all owner operators running their software are shooting targets.

When we get shot down by DOT, we pay by having to pay more for insurance, having brokers cut us out, and even have our MC shut down.

If DOT goes full retard on e-logs, mom and pop MCs are scwared
