I've got a mini split, but I didn't properly secure it. It lasted about 2 years, then I had the condenser repaired where it rubbed through the fins and coil. Then the copper line set got chafed sometime during this last winter. I had an AC guy purge it and refill after repairing the line, but it stopped working the next day. I'm not sure if it lost its charge due to another leak, or a blockage in the line from moisture or bits of insulation. Since I've been parked all summer, and I have a rolling portable unit as a backup, I haven't bothered diagnosing it. I will just pay $700-800 or whatever for a brand new unit and try to secure it better. The old one I can troubleshoot and repair later and install it on my travel trailer.
The RolliCool looks like a decent unit, but 10 feet of line is not very much. With the portable AC on the ground, it does not cool the entire cab and it stays extremely hot in the upper part of the sleeper. With the mini split mounted at window height, it cools the whole cab and is only slightly warmer up higher. But this is also during the day, when people usually aren't sleeping and need the cooling the most. The mini split also has heat, so it's nice having a backup for the bunk heater during winter. Also, the mini split is quieter than the window unit. It also doesn't really surge when it cycles off and on, but the window unit and mini fridge make the generator spike.

Little project I’m trying out. Fell out of love with the standup unit. Nice thing about this unit is it will run on a little generator all night on a gallon of gas. Been running it for about a month now. Not completely convinced it’s the end all be all but so far much easier than the stand up.
It will also run for a couple hours on my inverter if I’m stuck someplace waiting inside.Last edited: Sep 2, 2020
