This might blow your mind but Bush I anticipated that the introduction of the cdl would create a 'driver shortage' and developed a plan to bring immigrants in to fill the gap. Clinton declined to renew it, but for about 3 years the Federal Government subsided companies bringing in foreigners. There are 6 guys still working for Schneider that came in on the program - 2 Irish, 1 Brazilian, 1 Chilean, 1 Filipino, and 1 Pakistani.

Bush II approved Mexicans to drive CMVs in the US, which was fulfilling the terms of NAFTA which was negotiated by Bush I.

So please don't blame Democrats for immigrants driving CMVs.

Amazon seems to just obtain some of the worst carriers for their loads and this guy takes the cake. In Ontario during the worse winter months you would see a lineup of trucks hauling Amazon trailers in the ditch. I'm sometimes wondering how their score percentage is? My fuel lines frooze up on my truck once hauling a load at minus 14 Farenheit Sunday load in January causing it to be late and downgrade to a 68% average. Haven't hauled for them since. Yet, I see yahoos like this guy who take out so much innocent people. I doubt it was his 1st time on drinking or on drugs driving recklessly. I'm suprised a company the size of Amazom being a Trillion dollar business wouldn't be on that English proficiency testing when signing a carrier regarding their drivers. The chaos has been going on too long being ignored while innocent people are losing their lives because of morons like this driver.

Im convinced the amazon contractor hireing process goes like this.

Invite a ton of drivers or potential contractor companys in. Sit them down and have them do a test. Any of them who fill out anything are shown the door. The ones who stuffed pincils up their noses or tried to eat the paper go to the second round.

There they are given a language comprehension test. If they are able to speak or write at ALL regardleds of language. They are shown the door.

After this all of them are sat down and given a set of childrens blocks and told to solve it. Any who can sre shown the door. The ones who tried to swallow the blocks are marked as especially promiseing.

Whoever is left at this point is given a driveing test where the goal is to start at one end of a parking lot and go to the other in a line. Any who can do it are released. Any who knock down every single cone, knock over at least 1 parking light lamp pole. Hit at least 4 cars. And clip at least 1 tree are hired. Bonus points if they manage to run over a small animal.

And the only time reasonable drivers get loads is when they run out of working trucks and are foeced to hire an actual truck.

Except numbers aren't English, they're Arabic numerals which are used in every country on the planet. You can't fix stupid. Hard stop.

You can pick whatever language you want when you download the App. I assume then, that whenever you need to talk to someone, they know it needs to be someone that speaks that language.

Well imo that's where the problem starts when road signs are in English. Ironically, when you go to another non English Speaking country they only have their signs in their language. This should never be overlooked when a good majority of the gross weight of a tractor trailer is traveling on the highways at 65 mph in most cases.

when I started with Amazon, they had high standards. I used them for gaps in my trips to reduce dead head miles. At that time I was always able to speak with live brokers and negotiated rates. This was the early days of Amazon Relay averaged around $3.50 per mile back then. When they realized they couldn’t get good drivers they removed some limitations from joining.

when I was finally done with Amazon, you couldn’t get anyone on the phone anymore, responses to grievances took more than a month and rates had hit the floor.

imagine doing 10 trailer moves a day between DC’s 1/8 mile a part for $1200 in 2 hour, and $2200 Vegas to LA round trip runs being Empty half way, getting two loads into one trailer.

it was fun making money with them. But they did switch business models to getting failing companies to sign on and milk those companies out of the business with rates only enough to keep them on a paycheck to paycheck life.

    they should be held accountable.

The original agreement was no more then 50 miles inland from the border to protect us. 2011-12 time frame Obama changed it to allow them free reign all around the us. Border to border, coast to coast. That is when it became a huge problem. Down here got it the worst. The Houston driver who went into infamy in Denver was the first one to make the news and made people take notice.
