I'm sure the mile or two was sarcasm... Seriously, that Rand McNally Truckers Atlas never let me down when checking for low clearance locations.

You can order low clearance maps from New York City for those who go there. They are free but allow about two weeks for mail delivery.

this reminds me of the time we were running with another driver....we were on the front door....we went under a overpass.... it was marked 13' 4" but we KNEW we would fit, had been that route MANY MANY times over the years.....the driver behind us that were were running with locked em up....convinced it was too low...WE HAD JUST GONE UNDER IT with NO problem.....we finally convinced him it was all good to come on...but we teased him the rest of the trip

I know there are a lot of mismarked bridges in Chicago. Went under one on Western Av a few years ago, that was marked 13'0" when I knew I was at least 13'5".

Had one going to Friona Texas that said 13'6" on it. I saw it and was like "forget this crap!" And pulled off before the bridge. Spent a few minutes on google maps looking for another way around and as I was going back to the highway to take a different route, I saw two units run under it.

    "Well, s***!"

I decided to to give it a go as I'm no higher than those guys. But I did take it slow through it.

Yeah, I hate 13' 6" overpasses. So very close. If loaded it probably would fit. I did the same thing once (but I turned and went around a lot of extra miles) somewhere in Ohio because I was empty, but when I got to the shipper and asked some other drivers about it, a few said they had no trouble going under either empty or loaded. But better safe than sorry.

I once had a driver tell me that our trucks were only 13' 4" because we had 22" tires instead of 24" tires, which doesn't even make sense, because a tire that is 2" smaller in diameter would only make the truck 1" shorter.

Thinning the herd. Cedar Rapids Super Truckers had one too many trailers so it all worked out.
