Probably just one of those "it'll be fine, its just going up the road a bit."
I'm just surprised more people don't stop and ask questions before flying off, especially with tall loads.
I'm just getting started and already seeing a lot of odd things. Today going I-80 westbound and there was a car hauler going east bound with straps as securement on the vehicles and ISP Smokey was right up his rear lights and all. Couldn't tell if there was more securement than that though to be fair. Could have been just speeding.
Taking 2 lane back roads last week and oversized load with no front banner or red flags on the equipment hanging over the bed... over hang wasn't bad but being on curves and no shoulder puts you on edge having no experience going the opposite direction of it.
There's a 11'8" railroad bridge in town that gets hit once a year. Use to be worse before they added lights and all kinds of yellow markings on the bridge. Vans still think they can sneak under it. There is a side street that's possible to swing wide and cut across as long as there's no one parked. There is a sign right as you come into town on Hwy 61 S but the bridge is another 10 -15 more miles in.
Another excavator hits bridge

Straps are acceptable as securement on vehicles.SidewaysBentHalo Thanks this.

Sideways, are you talking about the bridge in downtown Davenport??
People used to hang way back when I used to bobtail down there to a Thai. place. Right before the bridge I would hang a left and go 2 blocks, then north on Brady to the place... I know people were probably taking odds on me hitting the bridgeDye Guardian Thanks this. -
That's the one! Funny how the police department sits on the other side of it and no one stops to ask for help and get redirected.
Yeah the Thai Bistro is out of business now. An old coworker/friend's brother use to own it. Use to stop in there once in awhile great food. -
We ran into his cousin the other week and his wife at the newer Thai place in Rock Island. The Thai place is now a taco shop, go figure
Yea the owner of the building kept jacking up his rent and not want to do any improvements to the building. Also found out the owner had massive heart attack awhile back, really messed him up -
I remember hearing about the rent jacking up and having some issues with fixing the place. Never heard about the health issue, that's sad. Didn't know there was one over in rock island as I don't go over there that much. I'll have to go check it out. Thanks

Yea, it's called Thai street food Soi 2
It's on second street. Right in the section where they have the road closed off as they had to put in a little walk area. parking is kinda a pain, but the food is good.. Exotic Thai is ok, but expensiveSidewaysBentHalo Thanks this. -
If you were here and that was me, you would run into the same thing. I am not putting all that stuff on until I get to 10 feet wide. We don't have to. Now if I am coming around some tight blind corners I will turn on all my lights and my beacons while creeping around the corners that I need both lanes of. Not because I have to but because I want to.johndeere4020 Thanks this.

IMO, the idea of a securment endorsement is a good one, but only as far as considering the safety of the general public.
You can weed out the idiots all you want, lower the number of available drivers for a certain load, but that won't change the rates from what they are now.
A perfect example is the TWIC card. Pay money to get this card that gets you onto military installations, into Ports, into refineries, etc, but it does nothing to enhance the rate to the truck.
In reality an endorsement would just ad more burocracy to the industry.
My 2 cents.Lepton1 Thanks this.
