To be honest you are going to find most OTR carriers OK with anywhere from 18 months on when it comes to felonies. I heard of a guy recently released from a Virginia prison that got a job with one of the grocery companies. I can't remember if it is 7 or 5 years on the TSA thing on the temp felonies. However, the TSA will look back as far as they can find records on all of a person's criminal history. Those lifetime crimes mean that too. I only know of one guy with what is listed on that TSA lifetime crime list (Murder) that got his hazmat and is hauling a tanker. I guess it won't hurt to try, you only have the fingerprinting and background fee to lose.

Thanks again guys, lots of good stuff here. I’m feeling more comfortable about being able to get in. Hazmat endorsement is on my “to do” list. I don’t think I’ll have any problems with the TSA as I’ve never been involved with any threats, terrorist activities or even harm to another person or business.

I have no interest of doing Canada. However for what it’s worth I lived in a Washington state about 17 years ago and would occasionally cross into Canada for shopping, never had an issue. Not sure when the Canadian government changed the rules, but again, never a problem.

I’ve been looking frantically at job postings on various sites and see several options. Sysco is offering exactly what I’m looking for right now, but as you’re aware, I’ve not done my training.

I’m meeting with a recruiter this coming Tuesday for the Swift thing. I’m going to be straight with her and ask how far they go back on background and see what she says. Of course I’ll tell her everything if she asks, I know she will, but as of now I’ve passed all her criteria questions.

Canada can be strange when it comes to entry. I also think the provinces can be different. I also have seen people with felonies enter. I did not get too deep into this subject because I don't want to ignite a pissing contest. Never assume you are good to enter any part of Canada in a CMV with a felony.
