From the looks of those pics, now we can see why they didnt remove the troopers body at the scene. I cant even make out the patrol car in that mess.

This is another reason I'm retiring . Too many idiots like this out there degrading the industry . I can't take pride in being a driver . The professionalism is gone . The few remaining professionals have desk jockies monitoring their e-logs and trying to tell them how should drive .
I don't have to drive . I was driving because I enjoyed the independence but e-logs did away with that .
Carriers that preach safety have their drivers doing their 62 mph in 55 mph zones because they need to get enough miles to survive at $.26 per mile .

Well said! I wish i was able to retire soon. I have 9 more years to go. I compare the skill level now to when i started in 1977 and it just aint there! My question is : Who is training the Trainers? I am lucky enough to have a local peddle run in the city so i stay off the highway when i can. I run the same city streets with the same peddle drivers and parcel drivers that most of them i personally know so i feel safe. At the end of my shift, i usually get on "the big road" to get back to the terminal. It seems like folks have forgotten common sense, basic reading skills etc. when they drive. Might as well stop putting up road/speed limit/ lane restriction signs because either folks cant read or refuse to comply. Well at least just 9 more years sounds better then just getting started.

I heard it on the news as a horrible accident until they reopened the northbound lanes, then they stated an IL State trooper had been killed and burned in a wreck on the southbound Tri-State Tollway just south of Willow Road. This news and reopening the road partially occurred about 5 AM. Traffic was light because of being Good Friday and many people not being in school or having to work.

Later news broadcasts told more about the trooper and the accident was still being investigated as of last night when I last heard Chicago local news.

James Sauter was 28, and had transferred to the Tollway from aerial patrolling. The community has lost a good man and he will be missed by many.

The police car is a crime scene, therefore the officer's body being in it would make sense. Also, depending on how bad and hot the fire was, he could have been melted to the seat. Thoughts and prayers to the family of the trooper, I hold them in the highest regard. Yeah, they may give you a ticket sometimes, but they are protecting all of us. RIP.

I wouldn't want to be driving for United Van Lines anywhere . We'll watch for the results. On the audit following this .
Too early to judge the driver . He may have been in the second lane and had a heart attack or something but I doubt it .
United Van Lines better have their house in order . This could happen to any carrier that has a driver get in this situation .
The article stated the troopers aunt was a retired ISP colonel . There will be serious consequences on this one .

It happens more often than you think, although not as often these days with the extrication tools and training available. I've seen a few tarp-covered wrecks leaving accident scenes on the back of a flatbed with a police escort. Reasons can vary from difficulty of removing remains to taxpayers crying about blocked roads, as previously mentioned.

Some outfits will not leave a man alone without backup, even if he is dead and trapped in wreckage. They put their lives on the line only to have them taken by the same whining 'taxpayers' in moments of negligence.

    #### the 'cost to the taxpayer'.

I'm not a cop. I'm not good enough to make the cut.

He wasn't a Chicago PD officer...he was an ISP trooper. The ISP had their guy there doing the investigation, so there was no reason for half a dozen Chicago cops to be standing around watching the ISP guy do his work. Besides, the dead guy ain't getting any deader....meanwhile elsewhere in Chicago...

You'll have to excuse me if I feel doing something about actual crimes in progress...protecting and serving the LIVING citizens of the city....should take precedence over watching the ISP investigate the unfortunate death of an ISP trooper.
