Tri -state is 8 lanes there, traffic moves well over the speed limit, so they pull over on whichever berm is closer, IL stops you as soon as you are able to stop.

I don't know that it will change anything, the accidents still happen, no matter how many are killed

I seldom take the northern Tri-state, there are other ways around and being cut-off going into the toll booths has soured me on that particular stretch

And what does that have to do with this thread ? LEO's often stop with disabled vehicles to offer them protection . I remember a similar accident in broad daylight on I-84 in CT . Two women were parked on the shoulder in a disabled vehicle . A retired reserve officer pulled up behind them and told them to get out of the vehicle and stand behind the guard rail . As he got back in his vehicle a semi hit him from behind and he also burned alive .

it has to do with putting one's self in harm's way

even when i see a fourwheeler on the shoulder, i think its dangerous, even a big truck on the shoulder is dangerous

flashing lights are going to help you after you have been run over, cops need to stop this practice of putting themselves and others at risk

Like I said in my earlier post . The only one this officer put in harm's way was himself when he came to the aid of a disable motorist .

Bottom line, trucks are prohibitted from the 2 left lanes on 294. This trucker was in the FAR left lane.

Every time I've seen a United Van Lines or an Allied truck it has been hammering down the highway.

To the genius whining about cops guarding the corpse of one of their own instead of being out chasing criminals you do realize that the ISP are pretty much the highway cops right? They don't patrol neighborhoods.

I don't agree with the genius but I think he was referring to Chicago Police mentioned in the article .

If you are going to attempt to insult somebody, perhaps you should get your facts straight....otherwise it just makes you look silly.

The cop killed was an ISP trooper....NOT a Chicago PD officer. The officers standing around watching instead of doing something productive were Chicago PD officers...NOT ISP troopers. I would be more sympathetic to them standing around watching if they were ISP troopers, or even if the dead cop was a Chicago PD officer....but neither was the case. While those Chicago PD officers were standing around having a circle jerk while watching the ISP conduct their investigation, actual crimes were being perpetrated in the city they should have been out patrolling. There was no need for those Chicago PD officers to be there.

Only a truck driver could use this to find fault with the Chicago PD.

That's like sayibg I was army so I should not feel sadbess and loss when a marine dies. I should not be there to.pay respects and prayers. Especially since I am no longer serving.

I still stop to show my respect. I ride escort with the patriot guard riders. Should I no longer do this?

Its called the thin blue line. A cop is a cop is a brother to these guys. No matter which department each works for. Maybe its my Army service or the 8 years working on ambulance but I understand and empathize with all of them.

    Sent from somewhere out there
