I've got a 20 year old Coleman Cooler here. About every 9 months or so the motor wears out, I just buy a new brushless motor and wire it in. It's not a real fridge, it just keeps the inside cooler than the outside. Good enough for lunch meat and cheeses.

my trainer uses a coleman 12v cooler, and that thing keeps the stuff inside COLD, almost frozen. I have to let my drinks warm up a bit or they hurt my teeth. Course he is also a polar bear and keeps the ac cranked constantly. So I am stepping out of the truck in texas when it's 105 outside wearing long sleeve shirt and a sock hat lol.

The problem with 12v coolers is that it needs to be cleaned every now and then. I got Igloo thats over 15yrs old, looks like crap but cools like new. Every spring I take it apart, clean those fins and forget about it. Even when my truck a/c went south ( even further south that I was at that time ) it kept food from spoilling. Of course I dont keep it on the floor OR PASS SEAT.

You're doing it right, that's how the Coleman cooler here has been working 20 years. Blow it out often, replace the motor when it wears out.

I've had good luck with the Igloo coolers. Got the first one in '91 and replaced it last year. Just changed the motor out every few years and kept it clean. It never gets hot in my truck either unless we are at home or in a motel and then I take it in and run it off a converter.
I also got a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer at Walmart for 10 bucks. I stuck it on my dash and put the wireless transmitter in the cooler so I always know whats goin on in there.

This is what I use, it's pricey, but it can be a freezer or a cooler-I make my meals before I leave on the road, vacuum pack them-freeze them- heat them up with a very small micro-wave called the cube.

$499.00 plus the cube $125.00=savings every week and better meals.

Lot better then stopping to eat at a truck stop. I save a lot of money and eat a hole lot better, like some drivers say-I pull in to a rest area and have a nice hot dinner or lunch.

I have a waeco fridge in my daycab I got the largest one that would fit between the seats of my W9. I bought it 5 years ago it runs 24/7/365. I only work 5 days a week and it runs all weekend even 3day weekends without killing the battery. It will freeze everything solid with the truck off sitting in the sun! It went through a accident in my Expedition that caused all the plastic containers inside it to blow up into tiny little pieces of plastic. The fridge still works. I only had to replace the end of the power cord. If it quits working tomorrow I will order another one.

Thanks. It's not really fair tho. I used to repair the milk chillers and espresso machines at Olive Garden. 3 1/2 years as a food equipment service tech has come in handy.
