You generally only see the 500 pound blob
with the body of a potato doing reefer and van work, so I've stayed away from those my whole "career"

My favorite driving job was back in the late 70's. I drove girls for an escort service. The only thing was that I would drop them off at a place and 20 minutes later we were off to the next stop. Never actually escorted anyone anywhere. And those 1 hour appointments never lasted anywhere close to an hour.
x1Heavy and passingthru69 Thank this. -
I like you already.,
With that said....
Freight. Anything and everything goes by truck at some point here in America.
Hazmat to me with Munitions on down to acids, paints, bases and all sorts of things factory need to do. Due to a difficult dispatcher who was more of a oaf with persnal agenda against me I chose to turn in Hazmat endorsement sot that they cannot abuse or mistreat me for the rset of my time there. It settled that dispatcher's hash.
Tanker is a Art. IF you can drive something wtih a open mug in hand and balanced on the dash you alerady know what not to do to avoid spill
Flatbed is wonderful. However Eckmiller (Which is a billion dollar company hauling steel) illegally BL me because We win the case against Eck, when they shorted miles to make you quit. Eck demonstrated malance and precaclulated things that Ive already forgiven them for. It's easy to do when you have a certain amount of savings and ae nit I like flatbed.
Reefer is temp control. Also heating products in winter. This one is a very involved and drawn out pronto. Most of whatever is going to happen to you begins here.
Farm, Hopper, stone bucket, Specialized (This is FUN>>>> Have a tank of a good time.
Buses, Dump trucks and many other things Oh my!!!
That's all here, Im fighting effects of medicine an will get back to you later tdaoy,.Movin On Thanks this. -
My best advice would be to get all endorsements now, because you are already at DMV getting learner's permit. What is another test. Also, think of what you wanna do 2-3 years from now. If local is your ultimate goal then try tanker because that will give you the best option to go local hauling fuel to gas stations, or hauling fuel grade liquids short distances. But if you are looking for the most miles while seeing the most of the country then haul refer. Especially, one of the outfits that haul beef. They will have you all over TX, OK, KS, NE, and everywhere inbetween.

I chose reefer to stay with as a Company Driver because people always need to eat. I put up with grocery warehouses, which waste our time, but I enjoy it more that dry van. Reefer lets you run coast to coast more often IMHO that other types. I hurt my back several years ago so I don't climb very well, otherwise I would pull oversize or flatbed to keep in better shape. It all depends on what you want to see and put up with, and if you want more exercise or less activity. If you want to run chains in the winter or not. Lot of variables, but this industry has something for you no matter what you like to do. See you out here someday, God bless.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I found Flatbedding to be rewarding. Never mind the precious 3/16th chain. ugh.
However hauling Narcotics with McKesson around the USA was our best situation, a literal gravy train. Never mind the mileage pay. Just show up, check mail box for loaded trailers. Examine the "Mail" present with deliveries by City and date and take the one you choose. You do however commit to that 110% No whining.
My lower back is having a disk move again and it's costing me use of one leg little bit at a time. I intend to see a doctor and get that straightened out before the damage and pain becomes numb and dead nerves forever imparing for sure what could have been saved early. -
Thanks for the continued feedback. I am days away from starting my cdl classes.
